In a fiery late-night series of posts on Truth Social, President Donald Trump tore into the mainstream media, accusing top cable networks of lying to the American people and calling for possible revocation of their FCC licenses. The target of his ire: notoriously left-leaning outlets ABC and NBC.
The conservative watchdog group Media Research Center recently released a report detailing just how hostile the press has been toward the former president. According to MRC, coverage of Trump’s administration has been overwhelmingly negative, with 92% of stories skewing against him. Trump, however, rounded that figure up in his posts, declaring the bias “97%” and blasting the networks for what he calls a coordinated attack.
“Despite a very high popularity and, according to many, among the greatest 8 months in Presidential History, ABC & NBC FAKE NEWS, two of the worst and most biased networks in history, give me 97% BAD STORIES,” Trump wrote, emphasizing the magnitude of the media’s hostility.
The president didn’t stop there. He argued that these networks, which rely on publicly regulated airwaves, are essentially functioning as arms of the Democratic Party. “IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEY ARE SIMPLY AN ARM OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY AND SHOULD, ACCORDING TO MANY, HAVE THEIR LICENSES REVOKED BY THE FCC,” he added. “I would be totally in favor of that because they are so biased and untruthful, an actual threat to our Democracy!!! MAGA.”
Trump’s critique also highlighted what he views as unfair financial practices by the networks. He questioned why ABC and NBC, “two of the absolute worst and most biased networks anywhere in the World,” aren’t paying proper fees to the federal government for using public airwaves. “They should lose their Licenses for their unfair coverage of Republicans and/or Conservatives, but at a minimum, they should pay up BIG for having the privilege of using the most valuable airwaves anywhere at anytime!!! Crooked ‘journalism’ should not be rewarded, it should be terminated!!!”
The president’s posts mark the latest salvo in a long-running feud with the media, which he has consistently labeled “Fake News.” Trump framed the networks’ negative coverage as part of a broader pattern of attacks on conservatives, arguing that their bias distorts public perception and undermines democracy itself.
Conservative commentators have widely praised Trump’s stance, arguing that the media has long been allowed to operate with little accountability despite their outsized influence on American politics. Critics of the networks point to the MRC’s data as proof that these outlets habitually suppress favorable coverage of conservative leaders while amplifying stories that damage their credibility.
Trump’s direct call to hold the networks accountable—through licensing and financial obligations—signals a willingness to challenge entrenched media power in a way few political figures have dared. For Trump supporters, it’s yet another example of the former president taking on the institutions they believe have consistently misrepresented their values.
As Trump declared, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” his message was clear: the media cannot be allowed to operate unchecked, and the American people deserve honest reporting, not partisan propaganda.
