The battle between President Donald Trump and America’s left-wing sanctuary cities just hit a new level — and this time, the fight centers on New York City, which has just elected Zohran Mamdani, an avowed socialist and self-proclaimed “movement” mayor. In response, Trump made it clear: not one more dime of taxpayer money will be wasted on a city run by a communist.

The president’s warning came shortly before Election Day, when he posted on Truth Social that as president, it’s his responsibility to make sure “endless piles of taxpayer money aren’t thrown into the gaping maw of a city that just elected a communist.” Trump added that New York, once the crown jewel of America, is now on a “path to major decline” under the leadership of people who despise capitalism, law enforcement, and American values.

Speaking later in an interview with CBS News, Trump doubled down. “It’s going to be hard for me as president to give a lot of money to New York,” he said. “Because if you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there.”

Mamdani, clearly rattled by the president’s remarks, went on an angry tirade during a pre-election speech — accusing Trump of “threatening” the city and promising to drag the administration into court to keep the federal dollars flowing.

“What we’ve seen across the country,” Mamdani fumed, “is the necessity of not just using the bully pulpit but also the courts to ensure that every dollar a municipality is owed is a dollar that is paid.” He vowed to “use every single day” of his tenure to fight Trump’s “threats” — a revealing comment from a man more concerned with suing Washington than fixing New York’s rampant crime, homelessness, and affordability crises.

Mamdani continued his tantrum after winning the election, railing against the president in his victory speech. “For too long, New Yorkers have seen a mayor willing to work with the president at the expense of those New Yorkers,” he declared. “If the president comes after the people of this city, I will stand up to him every step of the way.”

But President Trump wasn’t backing down. On Truth Social, he laid it out in no uncertain terms: “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing federal funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home. As a Communist, this once-great city has zero chance of success — or even survival.”

The president added, “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm. I don’t want to send good money after bad. It’s my obligation to run the nation responsibly, and my strong conviction is that New York City will be a complete and total economic and social disaster under Mamdani.”

Once again, Trump is saying what millions of Americans think: taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for left-wing cities that choose chaos, crime, and socialism over safety, sanity, and prosperity. New York made its choice — and now, it’s time for America to stop paying for its mistakes.
