In yet another damning example of how the D.C. Swamp runs on deception and corruption, former Trump intelligence chief Ric Grenell, now leading the Kennedy Center, has dropped a bombshell: $26 million in phantom revenue has been uncovered in just two years of financials at the prestigious—but notoriously woke—arts institution.
The Kennedy Center, long a playground for coastal elites and liberal virtue-signalers, is now under the microscope. Grenell, appointed interim Executive Director by President Trump in February, isn’t just taking over operations — he’s tearing the curtains down on decades of leftist mismanagement.
“NO MORE DRAG SHOWS, OR OTHER ANTI-AMERICAN PROPAGANDA — ONLY THE BEST,” President Trump declared in a Truth Social announcement naming Grenell to the top post. “Ric shares my Vision for a GOLDEN AGE of American Arts and Culture.”
And Grenell is wasting no time delivering.
According to Grenell, the Kennedy Center’s new CFO reviewed the 2024 and 2025 financial reports and discovered $26 million in “fake revenue”—an alarming amount of cash that appears to have been made up out of thin air under the previous leadership. That kind of shady bookkeeping is raising serious legal red flags.
“It’s criminal,” Grenell said. “We’re going to refer this to the U.S. Attorney’s Office here.”
That office, conveniently, is led by none other than Judge Jeanine Pirro, who now sits on the Kennedy Center Board. Grenell said Pirro has already been briefed on the findings and indicated that she, too, sees this as a case that needs to be fully investigated.
“This is unacceptable in America,” Grenell emphasized. “A \$26 million fraud on previous donors? It’s on.”
SHOCKING! Ric Grenell just revealed the new CFO of The Kennedy Center went through the 2024 & 2025 budgets and found $26 MILLION in PHANTOM REVENUE. FAKE REVENUE! This is now being referred to the U.S. Attorneys Office. @RichardGrenell pic.twitter.com/fW4wjJnPwE

The Kennedy Center—funded in large part by taxpayers and private donors—has become a symbol of elitist, anti-American programming in recent years. From drag queen performances to “woke” reinterpretations of classic works, it’s been more about left-wing politics than preserving American culture. The fact that its books now appear to have been cooked by its previous leadership just adds insult to injury.
President Trump himself addressed the issue at a Kennedy Center board dinner held at the White House:
“The previous leadership wasted millions and millions of dollars and handed us a budget deficit of \$26 million. Can you believe that?”
The former Kennedy Center President, Deborah Rutter, who was ousted shortly after Grenell’s arrival, offered little more than confusion and denial in response.
“I don’t know what information he was given,” she stammered when pressed on the \$26 million discrepancy. “It’s just not true.”
But her vague deflections are unlikely to hold up as the investigation proceeds—and conservative watchdogs are taking note. With the IRS and donor confidence now potentially on the line, the American people are demanding answers.
Grenell’s no-nonsense approach to restoring fiscal integrity and patriotic programming at the Kennedy Center is exactly why President Trump put him there. The question now is: how deep does the corruption go, and who else was in on the scheme?
One thing is certain: the days of elite arts institutions operating as unaccountable left-wing slush funds may finally be over.
