In another decisive victory for the America First agenda, President Donald Trump’s Department of Transportation has just taken thousands of illegally licensed truck drivers off America’s roads — a major move that’s already making the country safer and holding reckless blue states accountable for their failures.
The announcement marks one of the Trump administration’s strongest pushes yet to restore law, order, and common sense to the nation’s highways. It comes after years of lax enforcement under Democrat leadership, particularly in left-wing states like California, where officials openly issued commercial driver’s licenses to non-citizens — even those who couldn’t speak English or understand road signs.
That negligence has had deadly consequences. Just weeks ago, an illegal immigrant from India — licensed to drive big rigs in California despite not speaking English — caused a horrific highway crash that killed three innocent Americans. The tragedy, according to federal officials, could have been avoided entirely if California had followed federal law.
Transportation Secretary Duffy, following direct orders from President Trump, moved swiftly to fix the problem. On May 20, he signed an order directing strict enforcement of a long-standing federal rule requiring all commercial truck drivers to be able to speak and understand English.
“America First means safety first,” Duffy said at the time. “Americans are a lot safer on roads alongside truckers who can understand and interpret our traffic signs. This common-sense change ensures the penalty for failure to comply is more than a slap on the wrist.”
The new enforcement campaign, dubbed “Operation Safe Roads,” has already yielded major results. According to data released by the Department of Transportation, 7,248 drivers have been taken off the road since the order went into effect. These individuals failed to meet basic English proficiency standards — a requirement that helps ensure clear communication between drivers, law enforcement, and emergency responders.
Announcing the milestone on X (formerly Twitter), Secretary Duffy wrote, “.@USDOT requires commercial truck drivers to speak and understand English to operate a big rig — or they will be taken out of service. This is about @POTUS and his administration making America’s roads SAFE again! 🚛🇺🇸”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt applauded the move, saying the administration is restoring accountability to a system that had been dangerously neglected. “You might not know it, but there’s been a lot of communication problems between truckers, federal officials, and local responders. That’s obviously a public safety risk,” she said. “So we’re going to ensure that our truckers — who are the backbone of our economy — are all able to speak English. That’s a very commonsense policy.”
The crackdown has been widely praised by law enforcement organizations and trucking safety advocates, who argue that years of politically driven leniency under Democrats created chaos on the roads. “This is about saving lives and putting Americans first,” one industry expert told *The American Tribune.* “The left may call it harsh, but it’s simply enforcing the law — something they’ve forgotten how to do.”
Meanwhile, Secretary Duffy had sharp words for California Governor Gavin Newsom after the deadly highway crash involving the unqualified driver. “My prayers are with the families of the victims of this tragedy,” Duffy said. “It would have never happened if Gavin Newsom had followed our new rules. California broke the law, and now three people are dead and two are hospitalized. These people deserve justice. There will be consequences.”
Once again, President Trump’s team is proving that real leadership means prioritizing the safety and well-being of American citizens — not pandering to illegal immigrants or political activists. And with thousands of unsafe drivers now off the roads, it’s clear: under Trump, America is driving back toward sanity.
