New York City’s new far-left mayor, Zohran Mamdani, wasted no time proving President Trump right. The self-described “Democratic Socialist” and open-borders radical declared this week that his administration will refuse to cooperate with ICE — even as violent crime and illegal immigration continue to devastate the Big Apple.
During a press conference, Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and has long been accused of harboring anti-American and pro-communist views, said that under his leadership, the NYPD will have nothing to do with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “My NYPD will continue to not be of assistance to ICE whenever they are trying to terrorize New Yorkers across the five boroughs,” he declared.
Yes — the new mayor of America’s largest city just labeled federal law enforcement agents “terrorists.”
His comment came after a reporter asked how he would handle ICE operations in the city, referencing past coordination between local officials and federal authorities. Mamdani’s response was pure left-wing defiance: “I will continue to stand up for New Yorkers when Donald Trump is seeking to fulfill his promise to create the single largest deportation force in American history.”
In other words, the new mayor’s plan for keeping New Yorkers “safe” is to obstruct federal law enforcement, ignore deportation orders, and allow criminal aliens to roam free — the same playbook that has turned once-great cities like San Francisco and Chicago into war zones.
But Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan wasn’t having it. Appearing on Fox News, Homan went nuclear on Mamdani’s sanctuary stance, vowing that the Trump Administration will “flood the zone” in New York City regardless of the mayor’s refusal to cooperate.
“Mamdani needs to take a look at what happened in Chicago,” Homan said bluntly. “Mayor Johnson there is pushing back, not helping — but guess what? We’re arresting thousands of people in Chicago every week. We’re going to arrest people there tonight. We’re gonna arrest people there tomorrow.”
Homan made it clear that the federal government will not bow to woke mayors trying to shield illegal aliens from accountability. “All these mayors who don’t want their communities safer — they can scream and yell all they want,” he continued. “We’re going to be out there every day. And like I said months ago, in sanctuary cities like Chicago and New York, we will flood the zone.”
He also revealed that the Trump Administration is hiring 10,000 new ICE agents to target criminal illegals in sanctuary jurisdictions. “We know these cities are releasing public safety threats from their jails every day,” Homan said. “If he [Mamdani] were smart, he’d let us into Rikers Island so we could arrest bad guys in the safety of a jail — instead of letting them back out to reoffend against the people of his city.”
And in a message that surely sent chills through New York’s progressive establishment, Homan promised that federal agents would act with or without the mayor’s blessing. “We’re going to make New York safe again, with or without him,” he said. “We’d like his partnership, but if he won’t step up, we’ll do the job for him. President Trump made that promise — and we’re keeping it.”
For millions of fed-up New Yorkers watching their city crumble under the weight of illegal immigration and lawlessness, that promise couldn’t come soon enough.
