Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological condition in which hostages develop a closeness with their captors and the feeling that they are dependent on them. It was termed after a 1973 bank robbery in which robbers held four people captive for six days inside a bank in Stockholm, Sweden. When the hostages were eventually released, they risked their own lives to defend those who had kept them hostage at gunpoint because they had grown close with the criminals.

Stockholm Syndrome can affect everyone, whether they are bank robbers or kidnapping victims. It also applies to those kidnapped and forced into human trafficking or the sex slave trade. Now, one of R. Kelly’s abuse survivors had confessed her engagement to marry the convict, despite the awful things he is accused of having done to her when she was a young girl.

The judge received a letter from the victim, Joycelyn Savage, before R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking.

“My name is Joycelyn Savage, and I’m Robert Kelly’s fianće,” Savage wrote to Judge Ann Donnelly. “I’m writing this letter in support of Robert in advance of his sentencing, so I can explain to the court that I’m not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be.”

The June 13, 2022 letter stated that R. Kelly is “an all-around incredible person” who is “not the monster that the government has described him to be.”

Savage continued, “He always takes any opportunity he can to help those in need. He’s very determined and focused on his goals, and the things that have been said about him, with me and other women being held against our will, are absolutely untrue. It’s the complete opposite of who he is and what my relationship is like with Robert.”

At the time, Nikki was dating R. Kelly, who was later imprisoned for alleged sexual misconduct with young women and girls. Savage thought her letter might persuade the judge to give R. Kelly a less severe sentence for his many years of reprehensible acts against young women and girls.

“Robert and I are deeply in love, and it breaks my heart that the government has created a narrative that I’m a victim,” she wrote. “I’m a grown woman, and I can speak for myself… I respectfully ask that the court take my words into consideration when sentencing Robert. He is a great man with a great heart and deserves to be home with his loved ones who are ready to support him.”

Joycelyn Savage, who is 26 years old, has spent many years with R. Kelly. Her family, on the other hand, claims that she has been brainwashed by the musician and is being held hostage inside his mansion while he was out of prison.

“We’re saddened and disappointed to learn that Joycelyn Savage has said that she was not the person operating the Patreon account,” Savage’s family said in response to various allegations at the time. “We deeply desired to hear her story and in her own voice outside of the presence of Robert Sylvester Kelly or anyone associated with him.”

The victim’s family said, “For nearly three years, Joycelyn Savage has not been able to speak outside of a controlled environment created by Mr. Kelly. For three years, Joycelyn’s family has spent the holidays without their daughter. They love her and long to embrace her once again.”

On June 29, 2022, Mark Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and sexually abusing minors. The trial lasted six weeks.
