The world mourns the loss of beloved actor Stephen Greif, who passed away at 78 years old. On Monday, his representatives from Michelle Braidman Associates released a statement honoring his extensive career and immense talent. Born in Sawbridgeworth Hertfordshire, Greif was proud to have attended the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Joining the National Theatre Company at both the Old Vic and South Bank, he excelled on stage from the 1960s to early 1970s in a variety of plays.

Greif made a lasting impression on television screens everywhere with his most prominent role as space commander Travis in the beloved science fiction show, Blake’s 7. This hit series ran from 1978 to 1981 and included Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow, Michael Keating, and Sally Knyvette among its talented cast of actors.

Greif is most recognized for his roles in Citizen Smith as Harry Fenning, Casanova’s Signor Donato, and Shoot on Sight’s Commander John Shepherd.

Greif graced a variety of series, such as Doctors and Coronation Street, in addition to his other iconic roles. He also made an appearance on Tales of the Unexpected and EastEnders. His career reached its peak when he was cast in The Crown’s fourth season as Speaker of the House Sir Bernard Weatherill in 2020.
