In the ever-expanding world of entertainment, Taylor Swift has firmly established herself as a pop sensation adored by young women from every corner of the nation and beyond. The media’s infatuation with Swift knows no bounds, eagerly keeping readers and viewers informed about every move she makes, especially when it involves her new beau, NFL player Travis Kelce.

Despite her broad appeal, a recent resurfacing of a 2019 video clip shows Swift making disparaging remarks about Christians. This video is related to her song “You Need to Calm Down,” which focuses on LGBTQ+ individuals and their critics, particularly those who oppose their lifestyles on religious grounds.

In the music video, unkempt protesters, adorned with unconventional hairstyles and lacking in dental decorum, are seen vehemently demonstrating against LGBTQ+ individuals. Their signs bear slogans like “Adam + Eve NOT Adam + Steve,” “Homosexuality is SIN,” and “Get a Brain, Morons.” You can view the controversial clip here:

The clip caught the attention of Christian influencer John Root, who felt compelled to remind us all of Taylor Swift’s stance on Christians. One commenter shared a poignant reflection, saying, “I used to be an avid listener of her music, just like my schoolmates. But that video was an awakening for me, revealing the world’s hostility towards Christians. Even as a 12-year-old, I was deeply offended.”

At the time of the song’s release, Swift justified its message, stating, “I’ve observed numerous individuals in our society investing excessive energy in negativity, causing me to think, ‘You need to just calm down. You’re stressing yourself out. It seems more about you than the issue at hand. Just calm down.'”

Coincidentally, Swift released the song around the same time she voiced her support for the “Equality Act,” a 2019 bill aimed at amending the Civil Rights Act. The outspoken Evangelist Rev. Franklin Graham expressed his disapproval of both her support for the bill and the controversial music video, saying, “Shame on Taylor Swift for leveraging her platform to advocate for the socialist left’s so-called Equality Act. This legislation has nothing to do with genuine equality; it’s an attempt to impose the LGBTQ agenda on the American people.”

Rev. Graham went on to say, “When she received an award for her LGBTQ pride-themed music video at the MTV awards, she used it as an opportunity to promote the Equality Act. This bill poses a significant threat to religious liberty, unlike anything we’ve seen in our nation’s history. I have endorsed a letter urging Congressional leaders to reject the Equality Act. This matter is too grave for Christians to remain passive. I encourage everyone to contact their Senate representatives and urge them to vote AGAINST this perilous measure, which has already passed the House. Beyond allowing individuals with alternative gender identities access to private facilities, like changing rooms and restrooms, and permitting biological males to compete in girls’ and women’s sports, this bill carries far-reaching consequences. It seeks to coerce those of us who disagree into embracing and endorsing the LGBTQ lifestyle, and I, for one, will not stand for it.”

As Taylor Swift’s past continues to resurface, the entertainment world remains divided over her influence and the messages she chooses to amplify. The debate rages on, with no signs of it “calming down” anytime soon.
