Freshly uncovered tax documents are pouring gasoline on what conservatives have long suspected about the Biden-era climate spending spree: it wasn’t about saving the planet, it was about rewarding political allies. The latest paper trail shows that **Stacey Abrams**, a prominent Democratic activist and election denier turned climate crusader, was far more deeply involved in a massive federal grant than she previously let on.

According to the documents, Rewiring America, a left-wing climate group where Abrams served as senior counsel and senior adviser, pocketed more than $5 million in federal climate money just before the grant was pulled by the Trump administration. That funding was part of a jaw-dropping $2 billion grant approved in April 2024 by the **Environmental Protection Agency** under former President **Joe Biden**.

The money flowed through a little-known nonprofit called Power Forward Communities, which acted less like an independent organization and more like a pass-through vehicle for taxpayer dollars. By the end of 2024, Power Forward Communities had received $9.5 million from the EPA. More than half of that — over $5 million — was immediately sent to Rewiring America, the very group tied to Abrams.

What makes this arrangement even more troubling is that Power Forward Communities admitted in its own filings that the EPA grant was its only source of revenue for the year. In other words, the organization existed almost entirely to move federal money to politically connected groups. At the time the funds were transferred, Abrams was still serving in a senior leadership role at Rewiring America.

Publicly, Power Forward Communities has tried to downplay that connection. When EPA Administrator **Lee Zeldin** canceled the grant earlier this year, the group sued and claimed its relationship with Abrams was minimal, even calling it merely “alleged.” Its CEO, Timothy Mayopoulos, insisted the organization had “no relationship” with Abrams beyond vague advisory ties.

But insiders told a very different story. According to reporting by The Washington Free Beacon, Rewiring America’s own director of partnerships said Abrams “played a pivotal role” in securing the EPA grant. That directly contradicts the legal claims Power Forward Communities made in court.

Zeldin didn’t mince words in response to the revelations. He said the documents confirm what conservatives warned about all along: a rushed effort by the Biden administration to shovel billions of dollars out the door before **Donald Trump** returned to office. In Zeldin’s words, the Biden EPA handed out “hard-earned tax dollars to unqualified recipients riddled with self-dealing and conflicts of interest,” while deliberately weakening oversight.

The numbers back him up. While Rewiring America received millions, other coalition members were tossed scraps. United Way Worldwide got about $145,000. Enterprise Green Accelerator received less than $74,000. Local Initiatives Support Corporation got roughly $245,000. Habitat for Humanity received nothing at all.

Even more striking, Rewiring America reportedly earned just $100 in revenue in 2023 — before being catapulted into billionaire territory by a single EPA grant in 2024.

Zeldin says that’s exactly why the Trump EPA terminated the grant and supported Congress’s decision to repeal the entire Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. Neither Power Forward Communities nor Rewiring America responded to requests for comment, and Abrams’s team stayed silent as well.

For many conservatives, the silence speaks volumes.
