When even CNN is forced to admit Democrats are heading for disaster, you know the writing is on the wall. On Monday, network data analyst Harry Enten dropped a truth bomb that rattled the Democratic establishment: voters don’t trust Democrats on the issues that matter most, and the party is stumbling into the 2026 midterms with the enthusiasm of a losing football team.
The warning couldn’t come at a worse time for the left. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who has become the face of a rudderless party, is already watching veteran Democrats flee Capitol Hill in droves. Some are retiring from safe seats, but others are abandoning battleground states where Republicans now hold the advantage. With failed figures like Kamala Harris lurking in the background, Democrats have no clear leader—and no clear message.
Enten laid out the grim picture for Democrats during a conversation with CNN’s Kate Bolduan. When she asked about polling that showed Americans still trust Republicans over Democrats on major issues, Enten didn’t sugarcoat it: “Democrats are the New Orleans Saints of political parties,” he said bluntly. “Donald Trump being underwater doesn’t guarantee Democrats anything. Nothing!”
That’s because voters are looking at the issues that hit closest to home—and they’re siding with Republicans. On the economy, Republicans lead Democrats by 7 points. On immigration, the GOP dominates by 13 points. On crime, one of Trump’s strongest platforms, Republicans hold a staggering 22-point lead. These aren’t just numbers—they’re an indictment of years of Democrat-led failures.
Enten made clear the momentum is not with the left: “At this point, it’s the Republicans who are running with the ball on the top issues: the economy, immigration, and crime.”
And the trendlines are moving in only one direction. Compared to 2022, Republicans have not just held their ground—they’ve expanded it. Back then, Republicans held a 12-point lead on the economy. Today it’s 7 points, still a commanding edge in a cycle where Democrats desperately need wins. On immigration, Republicans were up just 3 points in 2022. Now? That lead has exploded to 13. As Enten exclaimed, “What are you doing, Democrats?! My goodness gracious.”
The worst news for Democrats may be crime. Just two years ago, Republicans had a 13-point lead. Now that margin has ballooned to 22 points, a devastating reflection of urban chaos, unchecked illegal immigration, and soft-on-crime policies championed by progressives.
Enten’s verdict was damning: “Whatever Democrats are doing, it ain’t working.”
For Republicans, this polling is proof that Americans are fed up with failed liberal policies, broken promises, and a party more interested in appeasing the woke left than solving real problems. For Democrats, it’s a flashing red warning sign: voters aren’t buying the spin anymore.
With the 2026 midterms quickly approaching, the GOP has the advantage on the issues that matter most. And if Democrats don’t wake up soon, they may find themselves not just out of touch—but out of power.
