Following a school shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, the community was shattered. 18-year-old Timothy Simpkins used a firearm to shoot 15-year-old Zacchaeus Selby four times, injuring him. During the altercation, the shooter also wounded 25-year-old teacher Calvin Pettitt by shooting him in the back.

Despite Simpkins’s family using GoFundMe to raise money for emotional support services and therapy following his “very traumatic experience,” his relatives turned to crowdfund platform to seek financial assistance with coping with their loss.

However, once the account was discovered to be donating money to the suspected school shooter, GoFundMe swiftly deleted it. Friends and family of Simpkins launched the fundraising campaign because the teenager was traumatized by his father’s recent death, which had nothing to do with the shooting at his high school.

On Friday, a GoFundMe spokesperson told Daily Mail that the page had been canceled and everyone who gave to Simpkins’s counseling and therapy had been reimbursed.

“The fundraiser was removed from the platform because it violated GoFundMe Terms of Service. Less than $150 was raised, and all donors have been refunded.”

Meanwhile, Selby, one of the victims in the school shooting, fights for his life in a hospital bed.

Selby and Simpkins began fighting in the classroom, according to authorities. After the shooting, Simpkins ran away. He surrendered to police later that day. On Thursday, a bail bondsperson posted some of his $75,000 bond after he was released on his own recognizance.

Kim T. Cole, a Dallas-based attorney, was the individual who officially launched the GoFundMe account for Simpkins’s family, claiming that he was a victim of bullying. They claim that their son was harassed by his classmates because he owned nice things like pricey sneakers and a Dodge Charger. The alleged shooter’s close family and friends established the GoFundMe campaign to raise money for therapy so that the boy could better cope with his father’s death. Kim T. Cole is a Dallas-based attorney who oversaw the opening of the account.

The fundraising website included a statement from Simpkins’s mother, Katrina.

“Many of you have seen the video of the brutal beating Timothy Simpkins received. He never even returned a blow. He simply balled up and covered his head, trying to protect himself. What you don’t know is that Timothy was robbed at gunpoint and stripped of his possessions a couple of weeks ago,’ she wrote. ‘And the unfortunate backstory is that Timothy’s father was brutally beaten to death. This fact definitely heightened Timothy’s fear for his life.

“Not to mention that the young man responsible for beating and harassing him made had recently made threats to kill him, so you see, my son was terrified and believed he would be murdered just like his father.”

His mom stated that she was “not suggesting taking a gun to school was the right choice,” but she told people that there is “so much more to the story.”

She said, “My son has gone through a very traumatic experience. He needs counseling and therapy.”
