In yet another display of California’s far-left insanity, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 4–1 to *declare a “local emergency”* — not for the city’s exploding homeless crisis, not for the rising crime, and not for the thousands still displaced by wildfires — but to “protect” illegal immigrants from federal immigration enforcement.

The decision, spearheaded by progressive supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Janice Hahn, essentially brands ICE agents — who are enforcing federal law — as villains, while portraying those who entered the country illegally as victims of “terror” and “hate.”

“What’s happening in our communities is an emergency,” Horvath said breathlessly. “And Los Angeles County is treating it like one.”

The “emergency” she’s referring to isn’t rampant fentanyl deaths or the 75,000 homeless people camping across the county — it’s federal officers daring to arrest criminals who have no legal right to be here.

Supervisor Janice Hahn joined the performance, declaring that “the full weight of County government” must be used to shield illegal immigrants from federal actions. She claimed the declaration was necessary to “respond to the fear, the pain and the disorder these ICE raids are causing our community.” Hahn went so far as to portray deportations as humanitarian disasters, insisting that “entire families are destitute because their fathers or mothers were taken from their workplaces.”

Then came Supervisor Holly Mitchell, who took the woke theatrics even further, alleging — without evidence — that “the raids have emboldened others to commit acts of race-based violence and hate.”

Meanwhile, the lone voice of reason, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, reminded her colleagues that federal immigration law is not optional. “The federal government has sole authority to enforce immigration law, and local governments cannot impede that authority,” she said, adding that the county should instead focus on real reform that “creates legal pathways” for those who follow the law — not handouts for those who don’t.

ICE officials didn’t hold back either. Spokesperson Emily Covington blasted the Board’s decision as a grotesque abuse of power and a slap in the face to law-abiding citizens. “The only state of emergency is the one the residents of Los Angeles face after electing officials who give a middle finger to the law,” she said.

Covington didn’t stop there. With biting sarcasm, she added, “Perhaps the board should ‘supervise’ funds to support law-abiding fire victims who still haven’t recovered, instead of criminal illegal aliens seeking refuge in their sanctuary city.”

She concluded by exposing the truth behind ICE’s mission: “While they publicly fear-monger, I would be shocked if they didn’t agree with ICE removing a child rapist from their neighborhood.”

The contrast couldn’t be starker. While Los Angeles politicians virtue-signal about “community compassion,” their city is collapsing under crime, homelessness, and corruption — all while they pour millions into protecting people who broke the law to be here.

This latest move confirms what conservatives have warned for years: in California, the radical left will do *anything* to defend illegal immigration, even if it means abandoning their own citizens in the process.
