Conservatives erupted in frustration Tuesday after President Trump’s landmark *One Big Beautiful Bill Act* scraped by the House in a razor-thin 215–214 vote — a victory that should have been even more decisive if not for one embarrassing blunder: Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) reportedly *fell asleep* just steps from the House floor and missed his own “yes” vote.

The bill passed, but the incident instantly sparked outrage among America-First voters already skeptical of the blue-state Republican. And the fact that Democrats nearly derailed the legislation — saved only by the absence of Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), who died earlier this month — only poured gasoline on the fire.

Speaker Mike Johnson, ever the diplomat, tried to defuse the situation with humor. “Andrew Garbarino did not make it in time. He fell asleep in the back,” Johnson joked after the vote, shaking his head. “I’m going to strangle him — but he’s my dear friend.” Johnson later insisted on social media, “It was really 217, okay?” stressing that Garbarino *intended* to vote yes and played a key role in negotiations.

But not everyone was amused.

Garbarino, faced with grassroots outrage, issued a statement attempting to explain away the stunning lapse. “I was moments away from the House floor to vote ‘yes’ when the vote was closed,” he said. While conceding frustration, Garbarino boasted of his role in fighting to lift the SALT cap and secure benefits for Long Island.

The apology did little to quell anger among conservatives, who viewed the incident as symbolic of exactly what’s wrong with the GOP’s establishment wing: unreliable, soft, and asleep — literally — during the most critical moments of Trump’s agenda.

One viral post hit the sentiment perfectly:
“SLEEPY? Wonder why there were so many anti-MAGA changes to the budget last night? Turns out NY Republican Andrew Garbarino fell asleep during the overnight session and missed the vote… Oh, and the budget wouldn’t have passed at all if Democrat Rep Gerry Connolly hadn’t died.”

Another widely shared message slammed Garbarino’s broader record, warning that he is poised to receive even more power despite the fiasco:
“Report: NY Congressman Andrew Garbarino — who fell asleep when the OBBB first passed — has been elected chair of Homeland Security. He backed CISA weaponization and said 2020 was the ‘most secure election in history.’”

That revelation only intensified conservatives’ belief that the Uniparty protects its own while punishing America-First fighters.

The reaction across social media was blistering:

“This is wild AF, embarrassing AF, and completely unacceptable AF!! According to multiple reports, Rep. Andrew Garbarino missed the vote because he fell asleep.”

Others questioned why last-minute concessions had to be made at all — concessions that might have been avoided if Garbarino had simply shown up to vote as promised.

While Speaker Johnson offered glowing praise to cushion the blow — calling Garbarino “trusted,” “reliable,” and “a tireless negotiator” — the base wasn’t having it.

For millions of Trump supporters, the message is clear:
If Republicans can’t stay awake long enough to defend the president’s agenda, maybe it’s time for new Republicans.
