Texas Republicans have spoken — and they spoke loudly.
In one of the most closely watched Republican primaries in the country, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton delivered a decisive and resounding defeat to longtime Sen. John Cornyn, ending the incumbent’s reelection hopes and cementing what many conservatives are calling a major victory for the America First movement.
With nearly all votes counted, Paxton surged to an overwhelming **64% of the vote**, leaving Cornyn trailing far behind at **36%** in what quickly turned from a competitive race into a political rout.
For many Texas conservatives, the outcome represents far more than just a Senate primary — it marks a clear rejection of establishment Republican politics and a full embrace of the MAGA agenda championed by President Donald Trump.
The race dramatically shifted after Trump threw his full endorsement behind Paxton, praising the Texas attorney general as a loyal conservative fighter who had stood firm on border security, election integrity, energy independence, and conservative legal battles.
That endorsement proved pivotal.
While Cornyn — a longtime fixture of the Senate establishment — attempted to frame himself as a reliable conservative voice, many grassroots Republicans increasingly viewed him as disconnected from the priorities of today’s GOP base. Frustrations over border security, spending battles, and what many conservatives see as weak Republican leadership in Washington appeared to fuel Paxton’s momentum.
By election night, the verdict from voters was unmistakable.
President Trump quickly celebrated the result, congratulating Paxton while also offering kind words to Cornyn for his years of public service.
“Congratulations to Ken Paxton on such a tremendous win,” Trump said, describing the attorney general as a “common-sense senator” and a proven America First conservative ready to fight in Washington.
Trump also made clear that he sees Paxton as a key ally in advancing conservative priorities in the Senate, including border enforcement, energy production, tax relief, election security, and support for Texas oil and gas.
Paxton, who built a national profile through legal battles against the Biden administration and strong opposition to illegal immigration, now enters the general election as one of the Republican Party’s highest-profile Senate candidates.
His supporters argue he represents the next generation of aggressive conservative leadership — one unafraid to challenge both Democrats and establishment Republicans alike.
The defeat also places Cornyn in rare company. Incumbent senators rarely lose primaries, particularly in major states like Texas. His loss sends a strong signal that Republican voters are increasingly demanding candidates who align more closely with Trump’s populist, America First agenda.
For many observers, the result reflects a broader transformation inside the Republican Party.
The old guard, once dominant in Washington, continues to face growing pressure from insurgent conservatives backed by energized grassroots voters who want fighters — not dealmakers.
Now, with the primary behind him, Paxton turns toward the general election carrying enormous momentum and the backing of President Trump, who has already hinted at holding campaign rallies across Texas.
If Tuesday night proved anything, it’s this: Texas Republicans are ready for a new chapter — and they believe Ken Paxton is the man to write it.
