In a stunning act of political treachery, Oregon State Representative Cyrus Javadi, a former Republican, officially jumped ship to the Democratic Party after repeatedly siding with Democrats on major votes—including a massive tax hike that has conservatives fuming. The move has sparked outrage among voters in his district, with a recall campaign already underway to hold him accountable.

Javadi, representing the North Coast, claimed his switch was motivated by “community priorities” rather than party loyalty. He cited issues such as Medicaid expansion, rural hospital funding, and other social programs as reasons for abandoning the GOP. In a statement, he insisted, “Being an elected leader has never been about party loyalty to me. It’s been about how I can best fight for our community and our state.”

But conservatives aren’t buying it. Many see Javadi’s actions as the classic RINO betrayal: abandoning principles and the party that supported him to chase power and appease left-wing interests. Even his past positions limiting abortion access may now be called into question as he courts Democrats, raising concerns about whether his new allegiance is ideological or purely opportunistic.

Javadi doubled down on his defense, highlighting alleged benefits of joining the Democrats. “Protecting Medicaid benefits for the nearly 60% of children in Tillamook and Clatsop counties? Opposed. Keeping rural hospitals afloat? Opposed. Preserving students’ access to books that reflect who they are? Opposed. Protecting the First Amendment rights of people different from ourselves? Opposed,” he wrote, portraying the GOP as obstructionist.

Republican observers, however, were quick to fire back. The Evergreen PAC issued a statement noting that Javadi’s defection strengthens their resolve: “That mission is not affected by today’s announcement. Instead, it strengthens our work and our caucus to advance those ideals by giving the north coast the opportunity to support a new leader who will put the needs of their communities above themselves.”

Javadi’s defection is just the latest example of RINOs obstructing the agenda conservatives fought for. Across the country, Trump allies have faced resistance from so-called moderates, from blocking cabinet nominations to undermining law-and-order initiatives. Former Trump attorney Alina Habba recently called out two of the most notorious RINOs, emphasizing the importance of loyalty to the American voters’ mandate.

“The president was rightfully voted in by a majority of Americans, and he is entitled to pick his U.S. attorneys, his Department of Justice officials, his judges, so that we can continue the agenda that the American public voted for, which is to get rid of crime,” Habba declared. She added, “In New Jersey alone, we arrested over 300 criminals, illegals, rapists. What is so bad about that work? It has nothing to do with the work we’re doing. It has nothing to do with the crime we’re stopping. It’s about preventing President Trump from continuing his agenda, and it has to stop.”

Habba’s comments underscore a broader frustration: when elected officials like Javadi abandon conservative principles for political convenience, it weakens efforts to defend Americans’ interests. For voters on Oregon’s North Coast, Javadi’s betrayal is personal—and they are already mobilizing to send a clear message at the ballot box.
