Saul Landers, the CFO of Jim’s West, echoed these concerns, pointing out that the long lines of customers waiting outside make them more vulnerable to criminal activity. “Our lines are down the block, so while you’re standing here in line, connecting with other people you may not know, we have security right here just to keep you guys safe,” Landers explained.
While the added expense of hiring armed security may seem daunting, Landers firmly believes it’s a worthwhile investment if it ensures the safety of their loyal patrons. He stated, “If you want to secure your business and you want to make sure everyone is safe, you have to spend that extra money.”
Kevon Darden, owner of Presidential Protection Services, highlighted the extensive training his security guards undergo. These professionals, often off-duty agents certified by the state of Pennsylvania, boast backgrounds in the military, law enforcement, and police work. Their expertise is a vital asset in maintaining the restaurant’s safety.
Understandably, some customers express reservations about the sight of armed guards with AR-15-style rifles. However, most patrons recognize the necessity of these security measures. One customer, while not a fan of firearms, commented, “If it deters (crime), I can’t complain. I’m not a big fan of guns, but I get it.”
