On the evening of December 10, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) found herself physically assaulted on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, simply for standing up for women’s rights. The incident occurred at the Rayburn House Office Building, a central location for Congressional offices, around 6 PM. 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois, who was quickly apprehended by U.S. Capitol Police, is now facing charges for the attack.
Rep. Mace, a vocal advocate for protecting women and defending common-sense policies on gender issues, took to her X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the assault to speak out. “I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women,” she wrote. “Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women! #HoldTheLine.”
The details of the incident, as reported by the Capitol Police and Fox News Digital, are disturbing. According to a police affidavit, two witnesses claimed that McIntyre approached Rep. Mace under the guise of shaking her hand. However, what began as a handshake quickly escalated into an exaggerated, aggressive motion, with McIntyre shaking Mace’s arm up and down violently. This aggressive act caused Mace significant pain in her wrist, arm, and shoulder. She was later seen wearing a brace as a result of the injury.
What made the situation even more alarming was McIntyre’s words as he physically intimidated Rep. Mace. He reportedly told her, “Trans youth deserve advocacy,” echoing the growing trend of radical activists resorting to violence when confronted with opposition to their agenda. Mace shared her experience, posting on her personal account, “I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-trans man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your trans violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO. #HoldTheLine.”
The congresswoman’s courage in the face of such an assault is admirable, especially when considering the repeated threats and violence she’s faced since speaking out in defense of women’s safety. In a follow-up post, Rep. Mace recounted the relentless attacks she’s endured since advocating for common-sense policies, such as bathroom restrictions to protect women’s privacy. “Since speaking up to protect women’s safety,” she wrote, “I’ve received horrific death threats, faced relentless verbal attacks, been told by activists they will continue to violate women’s rights, had a pro-trans activist rush the stage during a speaking engagement, witnessed threats directed at my staff simply for working for me, and now I’ve been physically accosted.”
Mace, however, remains resolute. “If I am enduring this many threats and facing this level of danger, how are women across this country supposed to feel safe in any space?” she asked, highlighting the dire consequences of the left’s increasingly radical tactics.
Rep. Mace also shared that President Trump personally reached out to check on her after the assault. “Thank you President Trump for the call just now to check in on me,” she wrote. “I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside. January 20th can’t come soon enough.”
Despite the harassment and violence, Rep. Mace remains undeterred. As she continues to “hold the line” in the battle for women’s safety and rights, her message is clear: threats and intimidation will not silence her. She will continue to fight for the safety and dignity of women, no matter the personal cost.
