If you grew up in the ’90s, chances are you remember “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” fondly. The show was a hit from 1993 to 1996. Jason David Frank, an actor, played Green Ranger Tommy Oliver in Power Rangers. Over the years, he played the role in other Power Rangers movies and TV shows such as “Power Rangers Megaforce,” “Power Rangers HyperForce” and the 2017 “Power Rangers” movie.

Unfortunately, Jason has died at the age of 49. TMZ was the first to break the news of his death, originally reporting that he committed suicide in Texas, but later adding more context to the story.

Jason and Tammie, currently going through a divorce, stayed in separate rooms at the same hotel while in Texas. Tammie and Jason argued while they were staying in the hotel room, and it got so bad that the staff had to come intervene. Afterwards, they fought again.

On either Friday night or Saturday morning, Jason locked Tammie out of his room. Because Tammie was concerned for Jason’s safety, she called the police early Saturday morning. The officers knocked on Jason’s door, but he wouldn’t respond. That’s when the hotel management decided to unlock the door. Once they were inside, they discovered that Jason had hanged himself in the bathroom.

Jason’s representative confirmed the sad news to PEOPLE, saying, “Unfortunately, it is true. Please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being. He loved his family, friends and fans very much. He will be truly missed.”

When Walter E. Jones, one of the original Power Rangers cast members, heard about Jason’s death, he posted a tribute to him on social media. He posted, “Can’t believe it…. RIP Jason David Frank.”

The video below goes into detail about Jason’s life and the other death that occurred among the original Power Rangers cast.

Jason is survived by his four children, Hunter, Jacob, Skye and Jenna.
