The world of ’90s Nickelodeon fans lost a familiar face last month with the passing of actor J.P. Schwieterman, best known for his role as the villainous Kurt Bozwell in the 1997 comedy *Good Burger*. Schwieterman died on February 28 at the age of 52 after a brief and sudden battle with aggressive stage 4 cancer.

News of his death sent shockwaves through his family and fans alike, with his brother, Chad Schwieterman, confirming the heartbreaking news on social media. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman,” Chad wrote on Facebook. “He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer.”

Family and friends were left in disbelief as Schwieterman’s passing came quickly and unexpectedly. His brother continued, “Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you.” The sudden nature of his illness and death has left those close to him grappling with their grief.

Born in Bluffton, Indiana, Schwieterman grew up a proud Eagle Scout and later set his sights on Hollywood, where he moved after high school. He began his acting career with guest spots on shows like *McKenna*, *ER*, and *Forever*, before landing his breakout role as Kurt Bozwell, the smarmy rival restaurant owner in *Good Burger*. The film, which became a cult classic, starred *Saturday Night Live* veterans Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell and featured appearances by notable figures like Sinbad and Shaquille O’Neal.

Schwieterman’s portrayal of the arrogant Bozwell made him a memorable figure in the world of ’90s kids, despite his relatively short time on the big screen. Following the success of *Good Burger*, he continued to work in television, making guest appearances on shows such as *Felicity*. However, he took a hiatus from acting in 2000 and didn’t return to the industry until 2008, when he appeared in the indie film *Along the Way*.

Despite his early success, Schwieterman was not part of the 2023 *Good Burger* sequel, much to the disappointment of fans who had hoped to see his iconic character make a return.

Outside of acting, Schwieterman was passionate about travel, photography, and painting. His love of adventure took him to many countries, with his most recent trip being to Thailand. He was also an avid martial artist and Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast, interests that painted a picture of a man who led a full and vibrant life beyond his acting career.

Schwieterman is survived by his parents, Clara and LeeRoy, two sisters, his brother Chad, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. His family has expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and loved ones during this difficult time.

A memorial service for Schwieterman was held on March 4, and his family has asked that donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas in his honor.

As fans remember J.P. Schwieterman, his portrayal of Kurt Bozwell in *Good Burger* remains a cherished part of ’90s nostalgia, and his legacy lives on through his work and the hearts of those who knew him. He will be missed.
