Ron Masak was an actor who appeared in 25 feature films and 350 TV shows. He was born on July 1, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois.
Masak’smost popular role was as Sheriff Mort Metzger on the show “Murder, She Wrote.” He was also known colloquially as the “King of Commercials” since he frequently appeared in and did voiceover work for hundreds of TV and radio commercials. For example, at one point hewas the voice of the stork in Vlasic Pickle commercials.
Masak’s daughter announced that her father had sadly passed away at the age of 86. She stated, “He was surrounded by his wife and all six children.” She then proceeded to list several of his film and TV credits. She wrote, “Most importantly, we will remember him as a husband, a Father, a Papa, a Father in Law, and a great friend. He has touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.”
Masak’s granddaughter, Kaylie Defilippis, announced that Masak died of natural causes in Thousand Oaks, California. Nine days before Masak died, his former co-star Angela Lansbury passed away. She was 96 years old.
Many fans paid tribute to Masak after he died. One person said, “So sorry for your loss. I have been rewatching Murder She Wrote as a tribute to Angela Lansbury. Ironically its Season 5 which was your father’s first season as Mort Metzer. He had guested in several previous episodes as different characters. He was a wonderful actor and I look forward to continuing to enjoy his performances. My best to you and your family.”
Another person wrote, “So very sorry for your family’s loss. May you each find peace and comfort in fond memories and in knowing your dad brought many years of entertainment to his many fans. How poignant it is that Ms Lansbury (Mrs Fletcher) would go ahead and prepare a welcome for him and(Sheriff Metzger) My most sincere condolences to you and your family. Ron will be sorely missed.”
The family of Masak posted an update sharing that they have started a GoFundMe to help his wife, Kay, during this difficult time. They were married for 61 years and have received an outpouring of love from friends, family and fans.
Masak’s family said, “We know our Dad was and extra special man to us, but to read the kind words about him from friends and fans has warmed our hearts.”
