Police in Michigan have arrested a man they say kidnapped and sexually assaulted a pregnant woman over the course of three weeks. These tragedies are horrific but we need to remember the warning they provide others. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson spoke about the recent incident and said, ‘The suspect approached the 20-year-old victim on the street around Thanksgiving and offered her a place to stay. The victim then went to his house.’ The woman was tricked into accepting Barajas’ invitation and then couldn’t escape. He allegedly shut her inside, tied her to a bed, and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.

It seems like the windows in the room she was locked in was screwed shut. Barajas is also accused of threatening to “rip out her throat” with his sharpened teeth.

The victim, who had been kicked out of her own home, was walking down the street when Barajas approached and offered her a place to stay. The woman went to his home and alleges that the abuse started there. After being locked in a room with screwed-shut windows, she realized escape was impossible.

Lots of suspects screamed at her over the course of three weeks. Barajas reportedly threatened to use his sharpened teeth to bite if she did not comply.

The victim managed to make three attempts to escape but was unable to succeed on the first two. She endured 3 attempts before she had a medical emergency relating to her pregnancy and was taken to the hospital. Medical staff alerted the police, and Barajas was promptly arrested. He’s being charged with numerous offenses, including human trafficking, kidnapping, sexual assault, possession of methamphetamine, and assault. He is currently being held on a $245k bond.

The investigation is still underway and police are searching for other leads for other suspects who have been involved in the sexual assaults. “There’s more out there,” Sheriff Swanson stated. “This story is horrifying,” he continued. “Rarely do I ever use adjectives like I’m going to use for this case.” He said Barajas is a “monster” and stated it was “chilling” that he had threatened to “sink his teeth” into the victim’s neck.

Additionally, the victim may sue Barajas civilly too. If you live in Michigan and have suffered as a result of sexual assault, it’s likely that you’re entitled to financial compensation. Personal Injury cases are harrowing and enlightening, but a skilled personal injury attorney can help victims get the justice they deserve.
