In a stunning move that’s raising eyebrows across the country, newly installed Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is threatening legal action against the United States after an illegal alien died while fleeing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid on a California marijuana farm.

The man, Jaime Alanís Garcia, was working illegally at Glass House Farms in Ventura County—a massive marijuana operation—when ICE agents conducted a raid targeting hundreds of undocumented workers, including a dozen unaccompanied minors. As the federal agents moved in, chaos erupted. Garcia, in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest, climbed onto the roof of a greenhouse to hide. Tragically, he fell approximately 30 feet, suffering a fractured skull and broken neck. He later died from his injuries.

Rather than acknowledging the role illegal immigration played in this incident—or the fact that Garcia was working on a marijuana farm likely in violation of multiple state and federal laws—President Sheinbaum is now threatening to sue the U.S. government, calling the incident “unacceptable.”

“We are supporting the family, we are in contact with them, and we’re also exploring the possibility of filing a complaint \[in the U.S.] because this is unacceptable,” Sheinbaum said at a press conference. She added that Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now reviewing the incident to determine grounds for a potential lawsuit.

Let’s pause and unpack this: a foreign national illegally crosses into the U.S., works unlawfully at a cannabis operation, resists federal enforcement by fleeing onto a rooftop, tragically falls while attempting to hide, and now the Mexican government wants to blame the U.S.?

Welcome to Biden’s America, where illegal aliens are treated like victims and law enforcement is treated like the enemy.

The family of Garcia, who was never in ICE custody at any point, took to social media to blame ICE for the accident. “Jaime was not just a farmworker, he was a provider, and a human being who deserved dignity,” the family wrote. “His death is not an isolated tragedy. It is the result of a targeted raid at Glass House Farms.”

But U.S. officials aren’t buying the emotional manipulation. Former Trump DHS officials didn’t hesitate to push back. Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DHS, issued a firm response debunking Sheinbaum’s legal posturing.

“This man was not in and has not been in CBP or ICE custody,” McLaughlin said. “Although he was not being pursued by law enforcement, this individual climbed up to the roof of a greenhouse and fell 30 feet. CBP immediately called a medivac to the scene to get him care as quickly as possible.”

In other words, the U.S. did everything right. Garcia wasn’t chased, cornered, or restrained by ICE. He chose to flee—illegally working at a farm, hiding during a lawful operation—and suffered a tragic but self-inflicted injury.

Yet rather than respecting U.S. sovereignty and law enforcement, Mexico is once again meddling in internal American affairs, defending its nationals regardless of the laws they break.

This case is yet another reminder of the crisis unfolding at the border under the Biden administration. With weak enforcement, sanctuary policies, and foreign leaders now threatening lawsuits over lawful immigration action, it’s never been clearer: America needs strong borders, unapologetic law enforcement, and leadership that puts citizens first.
