Democrats never tire of embarrassing themselves on national television, and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) is once again leading the charge. In a rambling, incoherent appearance on MSNBC’s *The Weeknight* Friday, the longtime left-wing firebrand demanded President Trump’s Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.
It was vintage Maxine Waters: big on drama, short on facts, and heavy with the kind of overblown rhetoric that has made her a walking punchline in Washington.
The trigger for her meltdown? President Trump’s efforts to rein in corruption and hold unelected bureaucrats accountable at the Federal Reserve. Waters declared—without evidence—that by seeking to remove a questionable official, Trump was somehow launching an “attack” on the Constitution.
“This is flagrant,” she fumed. “This is something that the president has decided to do—be damned the Constitution of the United States, where an independent agency is under attack.”
Of course, the Constitution gives the president broad authority to shape executive agencies, including the Fed. But Waters, whose understanding of the Constitution has always been shaky at best, painted Trump as a would-be dictator simply for exercising his rightful authority.
“He wants to control the Fed. He wants to determine interest rates. He wants to have the people on the governing board do exactly as they are told,” she ranted. “This is extraordinarily dangerous. This is the makings of a dictator who is trying to control the entire economy.”
The idea that removing one official would somehow “upend the entire economy” is laughable on its face. But for Waters, hyperbole isn’t a bug—it’s the whole program. She used the claim to justify her most outrageous demand: that Trump’s Cabinet move against him under the 25th Amendment.
“As far as I’m concerned, we have to move very aggressively,” she said. “It is time to call for Article 25 of the Constitution of the United States of America to determine his unfitness, to determine that something’s wrong with this president.”
Never mind that she couldn’t even cite the correct article—it’s the **25th Amendment**, not “Article 25.” Never mind that the 25th Amendment is reserved for cases where a president is physically or mentally incapacitated, not where members of Congress disagree with his policy decisions.
What Waters really revealed is the Democrats’ playbook: when they can’t win a policy debate, they cry “dictator” and look for some extraordinary legal gimmick to overturn the will of the voters.
For years, the left has smeared Trump as unfit for office, yet every time they drag out their latest “constitutional crisis,” it ends the same way—with egg on their faces. Waters’ performance on MSNBC is just the latest example of a party that has no vision for America, only rage at Donald Trump.
If anything is a danger to our democracy, it isn’t Trump holding corrupt bureaucrats accountable—it’s elected officials like Maxine Waters abusing their platforms to push delusional conspiracy theories and undermine the presidency itself.
