With a heavy heart, we must report that Adama Niane has passed away at the age of 56.

The French actor achieved worldwide recognition for his lead role in the Netflix original series Lupin, which launched to global acclaim in 2021.

The cause of his death remains undetermined.

On Twitter, Omar Sy – Adama’s Lupin co-star – paid tribute to the actor by praising him as a “man of rare benevolence”.

He tweeted: “I extend my deep condolences to the loved ones of Adama Niane, an immense actor alongside whom I had the chance and the pleasure of playing.”

“A man of rare benevolence… May his soul rest in peace.”

Olivier Abbou, a celebrated film director, honored the celebrity as a ‘hero’ in his tribute.

He wrote on Instagram: “It is with immense sadness that I learned of the passing of Adam Niane, with whom I had the pleasure of working on the 2 seasons of Maroni and Fury.”

“We haven’t left each other for 4 years, sharing intense human and artistic adventures at the end of the world, Guyana, St Pierre and Miquelon and even Lille.”

“He was engaged, lit, whole, talented, powerful. He was my hero, a friend, and an accomplice. Go in peace.”

Adama’s most recent role was Yannick Lantry in the 2022 TV series, L’ille aux 30 Cercueils (The Island of 30 Coffins). It was a project that he approached with enthusiasm and devotion.

Leonard Kone, the infamous assassin and former inmate in Lupin, was famously portrayed by him. This show is based on Maurice LeBlanc’s novels from 1905 that introduced this character to the world.

Lupin made history as the first French series to become a huge smash hit on Netflix’s Top 10 list, ranking No. 1 in countries like Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland – just to name a few!

Omar Sy takes the helm as Assane Diop, a man who channels his inner inspiration from Arsène Lupin of LeBlanc’s famed novels. Under Omar Sy’s talented acting, this drama is sure to bring an immersive experience full of adventure and mischievousness!

This concept has been adapted for various other motion pictures and television shows over the course of time, including an animated series.

After his father, an immigrant from Senegal, had been unjustly accused of stealing a diamond necklace and framed by his employer Hubert Pellegrini (Herve Pierre), Assane tragically ended up in prison. Overcome with shame, he succumbed to the situation and took his own life – leaving Lupin bereft as an orphan.
