In yet another display of political favoritism that puts elites above everyday Americans, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) quietly pulled officers from crime-ridden neighborhoods to provide personal security for former Vice President and failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris — after President Donald Trump revoked her taxpayer-funded Secret Service detail.

The move was orchestrated by California Governor Gavin Newsom, who directed California Highway Patrol officers to cover Harris, with LAPD’s elite Metropolitan Division ordered to assist. But the decision immediately drew internal backlash from officers frustrated that vital law enforcement resources were being wasted to babysit Harris while violent crime continues to plague Los Angeles.

According to a source cited by the *Los Angeles Times*, LAPD officers who should have been patrolling dangerous neighborhoods were instead reassigned to guard Harris. For many within the force, the hypocrisy was staggering. Ordinary residents continue to suffer the consequences of California’s soft-on-crime policies, yet the political class insists on securing VIP protection for themselves — all at the public’s expense.

Jennifer Forkish, the LAPD’s communications director, attempted to justify the decision by calling it a “temporary coordinated effort” with California Highway Patrol to “ensure there is no lapse in security” for Harris. But the explanation rang hollow, especially as rank-and-file officers expressed outrage over being pulled off real crime suppression duties.

The backlash was so intense that the LAPD quickly scrapped the security detail altogether. The Los Angeles Police Protective League — the union representing LAPD officers — didn’t mince words in blasting the arrangement, calling Harris’s taxpayer-funded protection “nuts.” In a scathing statement, the union declared, “L.A. taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness.” After the detail was canceled, the union celebrated the return of officers to the streets: “We are happy to report that the Metro officers assigned to protect the multimillionaire failed presidential candidate are back on the street fighting crime.”

Of course, Democrat leaders tried to spin the fiasco. Mayor Karen Bass praised LAPD for its “temporary support” of Harris while taking cheap shots at President Trump, accusing him of “revenge” for revoking her Secret Service detail. What Bass ignored, however, is the glaring double standard.

Under the Biden administration, Trump’s incoming Border Czar, Tom Homan, was denied Secret Service protection despite facing credible threats to his life. As political commentator Matthew Strickland noted, “The Biden admin refused to provide the incoming Border Czar with protection. In my opinion, the Deep State wanted him dead.” Apparently, security for outspoken conservatives isn’t a priority — but for Kamala Harris, Democrats are willing to strip officers from crime-ravaged streets to shield her from danger.

President Trump has also begun cutting back other unnecessary Secret Service perks long enjoyed by Democrat elites, including Hunter and Ashley Biden. On Truth Social, Trump blasted Hunter’s bloated detail: “There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous! He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa…”

The episode perfectly illustrates the problem Americans are fed up with: politicians demanding special treatment while ordinary families suffer the consequences of their failed policies. Los Angeles residents need officers fighting crime in their neighborhoods — not chauffeuring Kamala Harris.
