In the wake of yet another violent attack on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents—this time in Chicago—the Trump Administration is sounding the alarm on what it calls “deadly Democrat rhetoric” that has turned America’s federal officers into targets.

According to reports, the latest ambush left several ICE agents injured after city officials allegedly issued a “stand-down” order forbidding Chicago police from assisting them during the firefight. The order, which sources say came straight from city leadership, left federal agents exposed and outnumbered.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem didn’t hold back. Appearing on Fox News Channel’s *Fox & Friends Weekend* on October 5, Noem condemned Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and other Democrat leaders for creating a political environment where anti-ICE hysteria now endangers law enforcement lives.

“Let’s remember that the mayor has a less than 6% approval rating in Chicago,” Noem said sharply. “Less than 6% of his own residents think he’s doing even a somewhat decent job. Overwhelmingly, that man is a failure. He’s failed his people and hasn’t stood up for the victims of the crimes happening in his city.”

Noem’s comments come as Chicago continues to suffer from record-breaking violent crime, surging illegal immigration, and a government more focused on protecting political narratives than protecting its citizens.

Yet, despite the chaos, Noem revealed that everyday Chicagoans are increasingly siding with ICE—not their woke mayor. “We’re going to keep doing our work,” she said. “Every day we’re there, the people on the streets are clapping as we arrest these criminals. They’re relieved someone is finally cleaning up the mess.”

During a recent operation, Noem personally joined ICE agents on the ground. What she saw confirmed her point: of the 12 illegal aliens arrested that day, six had violent criminal histories. “These were individuals arrested for assault, weapons possession, and robbery,” she said. “The state had them in custody and just turned them loose. Thanks to President Trump, they’re off the streets—not thanks to that delusional mayor.”

Noem then addressed the bigger picture—what she calls the Left’s “air cover” for criminals. By demonizing ICE and portraying illegal aliens as victims, Democrats have emboldened criminals and endangered law enforcement. “He’s giving them air cover,” Noem said of Mayor Johnson. “He’s letting them believe they can keep committing crimes without consequences. That’s wrong—and there should be consequences for leaders who knowingly lie about what’s happening on the ground.”

The DHS Secretary’s remarks echo a growing frustration across the country. From Texas to Illinois, sanctuary city leaders have turned federal enforcement into a political punching bag, even as communities suffer the fallout of their “compassion without accountability” approach.

Noem concluded with a grim assessment of what Chicago has become under Democrat leadership. “This is a war zone,” she said bluntly. “His city is a war zone, and he’s lying so that criminals can go in there and destroy people’s lives.”

With crime rising, illegal aliens flooding sanctuary cities, and Democrat leaders still pointing fingers at ICE, Secretary Noem’s warning couldn’t be clearer: lawlessness thrives when leaders protect criminals instead of the people they swore to serve.
