In a fiery and unapologetic interview with Jesse Watters on *Fox News Primetime*, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem made it crystal clear: sanctuary city officials who refuse to protect federal agents and uphold the law will face an overwhelming federal response.

Speaking Tuesday night, October 7, Noem blasted Portland’s left-wing leadership for enabling chaos and refusing to defend Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers from Antifa rioters. She said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has had enough—and that if local officials won’t do their jobs, the federal government will do it for them.

“The mayor and police chief in Portland have failed to protect ICE officers,” Noem said bluntly. “I told them exactly what we expect—more security, a bigger buffer zone around federal buildings, and an end to letting anarchists run this city. They’ve left our officers hanging out to dry for months.”

According to Noem, her patience with Portland’s political games is over. She has given the city’s leaders an ultimatum: either cooperate and enforce law and order—or prepare for a federal surge that will blanket the city with DHS personnel.

“What I told him is that if he did not follow through on some of these security measures for our officers, we were going to cover him up with more federal resources,” Noem told Watters. “We’re going to send four times the amount of federal officers here so that the people of Portland can have some safety.”

The tough-talking Secretary—known for her no-nonsense leadership—explained that Portland’s mayor started their meeting with the usual progressive posturing, refusing to commit to any concrete measures. “I’m extremely disappointed,” Noem said. “He’s still playing politics. He said he’d give me an answer by tomorrow, and I’m hopeful—but I’m not holding my breath.”

Noem didn’t stop there. She called out Portland’s hypocrisy—city leaders who claim to care about “justice” while ignoring violent criminals and demonizing federal law enforcement. “Just today, we got a sex offender off the streets of Portland—a man who had been violating minors,” Noem said. “And it wasn’t the city that made that happen. It was our federal CBP and ICE officers cleaning up this city. These local officials didn’t thank us once for taking pedophiles off their streets.”

The Secretary also highlighted the absurdity of local officials showing more fear of violent mobs than of the law-abiding citizens they swore to protect. “Here’s the deal, Jesse—they’re more scared of the anarchists down there screaming threats at our officers than they are of the people living in this city,” she said. “There’s an apartment building right next to where this is happening, filled with families who just want to come home safely. I asked the mayor, ‘Do you get to walk from your car to your door without fear? Because these people can’t.’”

Noem’s message couldn’t be clearer: Washington won’t let radical mayors and anti-police activists hold American cities hostage. “They could have security today if they wanted it,” she said. “But if they won’t step up, we will.”

With a defiant tone and a plan to back it up, Secretary Noem is showing what strong leadership looks like in an age of lawlessness—and reminding America that protecting citizens will never take a backseat to woke politics.
