Comedy legend Jay Leno, 74, showed up at a Beverly Hills comedy event Monday night sporting a black eye, a swollen face, and a wrist wrapped in bandages—but his trademark humor and determination remained intact. Arriving at the *Comedy for Koby* event, Leno quipped about his latest accident, proving once again that he’s as tough as he is funny.

Leno explained to TMZ how his latest injury unfolded. Staying at a hotel perched on a hill, he decided to take a shortcut to a nearby restaurant. “I didn’t have a car, and the restaurant was about a mile and a half around,” he shared. “I looked at the hill—about 60 or 70 feet—and thought, ‘It doesn’t look that steep.’”

But the former *Tonight Show* host’s shortcut turned into a tumble. “I rolled down the hill,” Leno revealed, with a laugh. “Hit my head on a rock. Knocked me in my eye.”

Despite the incident, Leno didn’t miss a beat. Just hours later, he performed his scheduled comedy show before heading to the hospital for treatment. “The show must go on,” Leno joked. “It’s not that big a deal—it’s all right.”

Reflecting on the mishap, the veteran comedian added with his signature wit, “The great thing about this age is you don’t learn by your mistakes. You keep doing the same stupid thing.”

Leno’s resilience is no surprise to his fans, as he’s faced more than his fair share of challenges in recent years. In November 2022, Leno suffered third-degree burns in a garage fire while working on one of his beloved classic cars. The accident sent him to the ICU and required multiple skin grafts to repair the damage to his face.

Just two months later, he endured another setback—a motorcycle accident that left him with broken bones. True to form, Leno returned to the stage as soon as he recovered, even incorporating his injuries into his comedy routine.

Amid his own physical trials, Leno has also taken on the role of caregiver for his wife, Mavis, 78, who is battling dementia. Earlier this year, he was granted conservatorship over her, a responsibility he takes on with the same humor and grace that defines his public persona.

“We have a lot of fun,” Leno shared in a recent interview. “People say marriage is difficult—I don’t get it. I enjoy her company. I enjoy taking care of her. She’s the most independent woman I ever knew. I couldn’t be prouder of her.”

Married since 1980, the couple’s bond remains as strong as ever. While Leno’s life has been marked by public triumphs and personal challenges, his determination to face every obstacle head-on—and laugh about it along the way—is a testament to his unshakable spirit.

As he joked Monday night, “Life knocks you down, and then you roll down a hill. But hey, it makes for a good story.”
