Black’s first big hit was “Shake a Hand” in 1963. Over the years, he had many other hits including “Cry” and “Splish Splash”. In 1970, he won a Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance.
Black continued to tour and make music until his death. He is survived by his wife, two children, and four grandchildren.
