In an emotional and overly dramatic segment on April 19, 2025, MSNBC anchor Katie Phang tearfully bid farewell to Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), praising the far-left Congresswoman for her “commitment to democracy” and “integrity,” despite the irony of her remarks. This farewell, on the second-to-last episode of Phang’s show, was a perfect example of the MSNBC network’s continuing fall from grace, as it struggles to maintain relevance amid its heavily partisan agenda.
For context, MSNBC has been hemorrhaging viewers ever since the historic 2024 victory of President Donald Trump, a moment that highlighted the network’s increasingly biased and out-of-touch approach to news coverage. As a result, MSNBC has been forced to let go of several prominent hosts, including the infamous Joy Reid, who was fired earlier this year in a spectacular meltdown that conservatives quickly mocked as yet another example of the left’s inability to face reality.
But on this particular episode, Phang chose to focus her attention on praising Rep. Crockett’s far-left activism. In a dramatic tone, she introduced a video clip from Crockett’s first appearance on the show, where Phang effusively welcomed her as a “Texas State Representative” and appeared overly enamored with her radical positions. “I want to exercise a point of personal privilege right now,” Phang began, before playing the clip and gushing, “Well, Texas State Representative, Jasmine Crockett, thank you for being here and thanks for all of your advocacy. We appreciate it.”
Phang continued, “This is the second to the last episode of the show. Congresswoman, I wanted to thank you for always getting up early and delivering it, but I also want to say thank you for your continuing support for democracy.” It’s telling that Phang would call out her support for democracy, especially when it comes from someone whose positions are far outside the mainstream of most American voters.
As Phang lamented the cancellation of her show, a network struggling to retain any semblance of credibility, she further praised Crockett for her “integrity”—a term that seems increasingly hollow when used to describe a politician whose brand of radicalism has earned her a place as one of the loudest voices pushing for more government control and less personal freedom. “It’s definitely something that you have made your brand, and it’s the integrity that you’re bringing, and I’m grateful for you always,” Phang said, capping off her monologue with, “I will miss you… Congressman. Jasmine Crockett… you haven’t seen the last of me.”
This moment of adulation from Phang was just one in a long line of increasingly desperate attempts by MSNBC to shore up support from the progressive left, a group of viewers who have clearly grown tired of the network’s biased coverage. As noted earlier, fellow MSNBC host Joy Reid was also let go after her far-left rants failed to keep viewers engaged. Reid’s reaction to her firing was nothing short of dramatic, railing against President Trump and doubling down on her divisive rhetoric. “I’m not sorry that I stood up for those things,” Reid said in her farewell address. “Those things are of God.”
With both Phang and Reid bidding their shows adieu in such an emotional and politically charged manner, it’s clear that MSNBC is struggling to hold onto its far-left audience, even as its once-dominant influence in the media continues to fade. With ratings collapsing and its hosts growing more desperate, it seems the network’s grip on the American public is slipping, and the left-wing propaganda machine may soon face its reckoning.
