After years of obfuscation and stonewalling, the truth is finally catching up with the deep state. A newly released report from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirms what conservatives have long suspected: the FBI was not only aware of the January 6 protest — it had boots on the ground, including confidential human sources (CHSs) who entered restricted areas and even the Capitol building itself.
For years, the narrative pushed by Democrats and their media allies insisted that January 6 was an “insurrection” solely orchestrated by MAGA supporters — no mention of federal agents, informants, or pre-existing knowledge of possible unrest. Now, that narrative is unraveling.
In a December 12, 2024 press release, Inspector General Horowitz revealed that *26 FBI confidential human sources* were in Washington, D.C., on January 6 in connection to the day’s events. And, in a stunning admission, he confirmed that at least one of those sources entered the Capitol itself, while others crossed into restricted areas.
Let that sink in: FBI assets were in restricted areas of the Capitol on January 6.
Horowitz’s report directly contradicts earlier statements from the FBI. The agency had previously claimed that it canvassed its field offices for intelligence and warned local law enforcement. That turned out to be false. According to the IG, the FBI made “inaccurate reports to Congress,” citing “confusion and lack of coordination.” But even if these inaccuracies weren’t deemed “intentional,” the result was the same: Congress and the American people were misled — again.
And what about those denials of FBI involvement in the crowd? The Inspector General admits they found *no evidence* that undercover FBI employees were “in the various protest crowds or at the Capitol,” but that’s not the same as saying there was no FBI involvement. In fact, the report confirms there was — and it was substantial.
Of the 26 FBI CHSs in D.C. that day:
* One entered the Capitol during the riot
* Two others entered restricted areas outside the building
* An additional 11 CHSs also entered restricted areas
* Many were not even tasked to be there — they showed up on their own initiative
In plain English: a significant number of FBI-affiliated informants were on the ground at the Capitol, and several engaged in illegal activity — all while everyday Americans are still being hunted down and imprisoned for setting foot in the same areas.
The fallout was swift. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), a longtime skeptic of the FBI’s handling of January 6, took to X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“It’s no coincidence that FBI Director Wray announced his resignation just prior to the release of the IG report exposing activities of FBI confidential human sources at the Capitol on Jan 6.”
“For four years, I pressed for answers on this. Now the malfeasance is finally exposed.”
Massie is right to sound the alarm. Director Wray’s conveniently timed resignation looks less like a career move and more like a strategic retreat — a last-ditch attempt to avoid accountability now that the truth is finally seeping out.
The Real Question: Who Was Really Inciting What?
This report opens the door to a question that legacy media refuses to touch: **To what extent was the FBI involved in shaping the events of January 6?** Were these confidential sources simply observers — or did some of them act as provocateurs? And if they committed crimes, why haven’t they faced the same legal wrath as Trump supporters?
For years, conservatives who questioned the FBI’s role in January 6 were smeared as conspiracy theorists. Now we know those concerns were entirely justified. The American people deserve answers — and accountability — from the federal agencies that are supposed to serve *them*, not manipulate public perception or cover their own failures.
This isn’t just about January 6 anymore. It’s about trust in our institutions, and whether the FBI has become a political weapon wielded against the very citizens it’s sworn to protect.
The truth is finally coming out — and for the FBI, the reckoning has just begun.
