Another American life has been senselessly lost because an illegal immigrant — who never should have been on U.S. soil — was allowed to roam freely on our highways. This time, the victim was a young Indiana National Guard soldier, Spc. Terry Frye, just 23 years old, whose future was stolen during a routine training convoy.

The deadly incident unfolded last weekend on Interstate 65 in Boone County, Indiana. Frye and several fellow Guardsmen were traveling in a Humvee convoy from the Frankfort Armory to Camp Atterbury for weekend drills when disaster struck. According to law enforcement, a hauler truck “abruptly” swerved lanes, causing Frye to lose control of his vehicle.

The Humvee rolled multiple times before smashing into a Subaru driven by a woman from Kentucky. She suffered injuries but survived. First responders found four Guardsmen wounded — one unconscious and Frye fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver responsible for the chain-reaction crash?
Not an American trucker. Not a licensed, vetted commercial driver.
But **56-year-old Goderdzi Gujabidze**, a citizen of the country of Georgia — and **an illegal immigrant living in Brooklyn**.

Gujabidze reportedly could not communicate effectively in English and required a translator before authorities confirmed his illegal status. Yet he was driving a massive hauler truck on an American interstate, endangering every life around him.

This is what open-borders extremism has delivered: preventable funerals.

Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) said what millions of Americans are thinking: “Indiana National Guardsman Terry Frye should still be alive. His life was cut short on I-65 by an illegal who never should’ve been here in the first place. I fully support President Trump’s mission to deport everyone here illegally so we can prevent tragedies like this from ever happening again.”

He’s right. This tragedy wasn’t random — it was the direct result of years of Democrat-led refusal to secure the border, enforce immigration laws, or remove people who have no legal right to be here. While elected leaders in sanctuary cities bend over backwards to protect illegal immigrants, American families are being left to pick up the pieces.

Frye’s family, still grieving and overwhelmed with loss, objected to any political commentary around his death — which is understandable, even as the rest of the country grapples with the policy failures that led to it.

But the hard truth remains: these tragedies will keep happening as long as illegal immigrants are allowed to remain in the United States unchecked.

The three other Guardsmen injured in the crash — Izaya Phillips, 21, Nicholas Reinhart, 27, and Luke Richardson, 23 — were hospitalized with serious injuries. All four soldiers belonged to Company D, 2nd Battalion, 151st Infantry Regiment. Frye had served honorably since March 2020 and had earned both the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

He served his country.
His country did not protect him in return.

As investigations continue, Americans are left with yet another painful reminder: illegal immigration is not a “victimless” issue. It is costing real American lives — and unless decisive action is taken, more families will face the same anguish the Frye family now endures.
