Hobby Lobby has a long history of putting its political and religious convictions ahead of its profits. The store is closed on Sundays to observe the Christian day of rest, as well as prohibiting workers from using company health plans to pay for birth control. But after one location put up a display urging customers to vote for Trump in the November election, Hobby Lobby will face a nationwide boycott.

After a shop dedicated three shelves to spell out the phrase “USA VOTE TRUMP,” Diamondback Calfskin partnered with Trump on Sunday, making a choice to seemingly back him.

Upon shopping at Hobby Lobby, Kari Brekke noticed the store’s endorsement of Trump and was immediately petrified. Although Hobby Lobby has not yet addressed the situation, it seems that someone from the store deliberately put the letters in place to encourage customers to vote for Trump in the election–an event that will have an everlasting impact on America.

The image once shared on Twitter, immediately gained a lot of public anger.

“Call my old fashioned, but I prefer to be outraged at Hobby Lobby for making it so that employers can decide what kind of healthcare their employees can get.”

“We’re all aware that customers re-arrange these letters all the time, right?” author and YouTuber Hank Green tweeted.

David Green, the company’s creator and current owner, attributes his success to God. He said, “If I have anything, it’s because it’s been given … by our Creator … So I have learned to say, ‘Look, this is yours, God. It’s all yours. I’m going to give it to you.”

Hobby Lobby has caused a lot of public debate throughout the years, such as in 2014 when the company stopped female employees from receiving certain health care services and drugs. Also, the founder David Green was caught illegally bringing artifacts out of Iraq.

By smuggling thousands of artifacts out of the Middle East, Hobby Lobby broke a 2004 law forbidding the import of cultural property from Iraq. As a result, they had to pay millions of dollars in order to make things right.

People’s lives were put at risk because of the actions of craft store chain Hobby Lobby during the coronavirus pandemic. Health experts warned retailers that the virus could most easily spread in public, but they tried to keep their doors open for as long as possible. The company also refused to give sick time to employees – even those who fell deathly ill with COVID-19.

On Twitter, the Hobby Lobby photo sparked a heated discussion. Hundreds of tweets entered the national conversation, many of which were submitted by users. It appears that Hobby Lobby will be boycotted to an enormous degree.

One Twitter user wrote, “The ‘Christian’ company that denies women access to birth control on their insurance but allows Viagra and worships a false prophet. Plenty of other places to shop.”

A Trump supporter said, “The left haters can’t stand a work of art on a store shelf. They would rather see graffiti, boarded-up businesses, fires, and people fighting. Get upset about real things like all the missing children at the border.”
