In yet another slap in the face to female athletes across America, a California high school track meet turned into a battleground for fairness in sports after a biological male identifying as transgender took home top honors—at the expense of girls who’ve trained their whole lives for this moment.
AB Hernandez, a 16-year-old biological male competing on the girls’ track team at Jurupa Valley High School, sparked widespread outrage after winning gold in the triple jump and tying for first place in the varsity high jump at the California state track-and-field championships on May 31.
Parents, coaches, and athletes protested outside stadium gates, demanding fairness for biological girls who are now being forced to compete in what many see as an increasingly rigged system. But according to Hernandez, the backlash is “weird.”
“I get a lot of hate comments, but I’m like, ‘I don’t care,’” the athlete told local media. “You think I’m going to care?”
That kind of dismissiveness is exactly what has parents fuming. Girls who have spent years waking up before dawn, sacrificing weekends, and chasing scholarship dreams are now being told to step aside—all in the name of “inclusion.”
Worse, California’s left-wing athletic governing body — the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) — changed the rules just days before the event to soften the blow. The new policy ensured that any girls displaced by a male athlete wouldn’t lose their placement and allowed additional biological females to compete in events featuring Hernandez. In other words: they rigged the optics, not the outcome.
Let’s be clear — no girl got her spot back on the podium, and none got to experience the thrill of winning uncontested. Instead, they had to share their moment with a biological male, all while being told they were “included.”
President Trump, never one to stay silent when American girls are being sidelined, blasted the move, calling out California’s far-left governor:
> “California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum \[sic], continues to ILLEGALLY allow ‘MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS,’” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The president’s February executive order to protect women’s sports now looms large, with threats to withhold federal funding from any state that refuses to respect Title IX’s original intent: protecting women and girls from discrimination, not redefining it to appease gender ideology.
The Department of Justice has already announced plans to investigate California’s School Success and Opportunity Act, which allows transgender students to compete in girls’ sports. And rightly so.
If the Biden administration won’t act, then Trump’s administration—or any future conservative leadership — must. The line in the sand is clear: We either stand up for our daughters or surrender their future to woke activists.
What’s happening in California isn’t just a state issue—it’s a national disgrace, and it’s time to put an end to the madness before fairness in women’s sports becomes a relic of the past.
