Although we don’t see them that often, there are a few deer in the wild with three antlers. Most of the time, however, they are in hiding during the day. Luckily for nature lovers around the world, one Missouri resident was able to capture a stunning picture of one of these deer late at night.
Marsha Gloe, who is a resident of Gasconade County, took this incredible picture with her camera on flash. Right after she caught this image, Gloe sent an electronic copy off to the Missouri Department of Conservation. She also posted it on her Facebook page, and the picture immediately went viral.
You can see that this male deer has two normal antlers and a third poking out near his left ear. And, in case you can’t tell, that’s a stump in the foreground. The Missouri Department of Conservation is officially calling this deer an “animal oddity.” Workers at the conservation center told the media that Gloe captured this image with a game camera on her family’s ranch. What’s really interesting about this deer spotting is that Earl Stubblefield, a bow hunter in Mississippi, sighted another strange buck just a few weeks ago.
Stubblefield killed a buck that had all of its 10 spikes sticking upwards, which is very rare for a deer. Both Stubblefield and local authorities say they never heard of such a deer in Mississippi before.
Some people claim that there must have been some kind of issue with the camera Gloe was using. Not everyone, apparently, believes it could be possible for a deer to have three antlers. Only time will tell if this three antlered buck is in fact real.
Gloe says she certainly will be looking out for this rare specimen, and everyone else in this section of Missouri will keep their eyes peeled as well.
