In a time when heroism often feels like a relic of the past, 25-year-old Nicholas Bostic proved that courage and selflessness still shine brightly. Footage has resurfaced showing Bostic, a pizza delivery driver from Lafayette, Indiana, rushing headlong into a burning house to save five children trapped inside. His brave actions, captured on video, have reignited praise for his extraordinary valor.

The life-changing event unfolded late one night when Bostic, driving through Lafayette, noticed flames engulfing a home. Without his phone to call 911, he acted on pure instinct, charging into the inferno to save lives. Inside the house, four siblings, ages 18, 13, 6, and 1, along with a 13-year-old guest, were in peril.

Bostic successfully guided four of the children to safety but soon realized one was still missing—the six-year-old. Despite the escalating heat and choking smoke, Bostic re-entered the blaze. Fighting through the flames, he found the child and, with no time to spare, smashed through a second-story window. Cradling the child, he leapt from the window to the ground below, ensuring the child’s survival at great personal cost.

The Lafayette Police Department commended Bostic’s heroism in a statement detailing the events of July 11, 2022. Lt. Randy Sherer explained that first responders arrived to find the home completely engulfed, preventing them from entering. Bostic’s daring actions had already saved lives by the time they arrived.

“At approximately 12:36 a.m., a male, who had entered the home prior to emergency personnel arriving, jumped through a window of the second-story house and landed on the ground with the six-year-old child who had been trapped inside,” Sherer said. “The male, later identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Bostic of Lafayette, was seriously injured during the incident, suffering from severe smoke inhalation and a deeply cut right arm. The six-year-old child was miraculously mostly uninjured.”

The Lafayette community has hailed Bostic as a hero. Local leaders, including Mayor Tony Roswarski, praised his courage and selflessness. “Nicholas Bostic’s heroic actions saved lives,” the City of Lafayette stated in a public recognition. “His selflessness exhibited when he rushed into a burning Lafayette home to save children trapped inside is inspiring and has impressed many with his courage, tenacity, and steadfast calmness in the face of such perilous danger.”

Bostic’s actions were honored during National Night Out at a community event, where he was celebrated as an example of unwavering courage.

At a time when self-sacrifice can seem rare, Nicholas Bostic’s bravery serves as a powerful reminder of the values that define true heroism: risking one’s own safety to save others. His story is one of hope, courage, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
