Once again, the radical Left’s obsession with victimhood collided with reality — and this time it centered around a brutal murder on a North Carolina train.
GoFundMe was forced to yank down multiple “fundraisers” for Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., a 35-year-old homeless man with at least 14 prior arrests, who is accused of stabbing 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee **Iryna Zarutska** to death in a savage, random attack on August 22.

The so-called “fundraisers” weren’t about helping the grieving family of the innocent young woman whose life was stolen. No, these pages actually portrayed Brown — a career criminal with a rap sheet a mile long — as the *real* victim.

One fundraiser shamelessly claimed, “While what happened on the Blue Line was a tragedy, what we mustn’t lose sight of is the fact that Decarlos Brown Jr. was failed categorically by the judicial system and the mental health services of North Carolina, and as such is not entirely to blame for what happened.”

Another went even further, framing donations as a battle against “racism and bias.” It read: “Raising money to assist with legal fees for Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr. Anything helps fight against the racism and bias against our people. Thank you for giving us a hand to push against this corrupt narrative.”

Meanwhile, surveillance footage showed the horrifying reality: Brown pulled a pocketknife and viciously stabbed Zarutska dozens of times, leaving the train car drenched in blood.

The backlash was swift and fiery. Outraged citizens took to social media to condemn the insanity. One user posted, “You can’t make this up. He murdered in cold blood and yet his supporters want you to think he was ‘failed’ by the system.”
Another fumed, “What kind of sick human is donating to this monster? GoFundMe should be ashamed.” Still another demanded accountability: “Anyone who donated to the GoFundMe for Decarlos Dejuan Brown should be named and shamed! He killed an innocent woman!”
And as many pointed out, race-baiting only made the grotesque defense more insulting. “Race has nothing to do with it! If the races were reversed, the outrage would be national and nonstop,” one user wrote.

Under mounting pressure, GoFundMe finally took action. The platform issued a statement: “GoFundMe’s Terms of Service explicitly prohibit fundraisers that raise money for the legal defense of anyone formally charged with an alleged violent crime. Consistent with this long-standing policy, this fundraiser has been removed from the platform and the donors who contributed… have been fully refunded.”
Brown, who has convictions dating back to 2014, now faces a murder charge. Court records confirm his long history of criminal behavior — a history that critics argue should have kept him off the streets in the first place.

While leftist activists tried to turn the killer into a martyr, the true victim — Iryna Zarutska — is being honored. A fundraiser for her grieving family has already raised more than \$75,000, as Americans rally to support the innocent life that was lost.
The contrast could not be clearer: one side makes excuses for criminals, the other stands with victims.
