There are many children’s movies that feature heroines who share a special connection with wildlife. One little girl seems to have inherited the magic touch that makes woodland creatures flock to Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.
Every day, she goes to visit her best friend, who happens to be a donkey. Her gentle spirit shines forth through her smile as she stands outside the pen, ready to embrace the shaggy creature.
As soon as he hears her voice, the donkey has a pronounced reaction. He brays loudly, a call of exultation that demonstrates just how pleased he is to see her.
After trotting over to her, he rubs up against her, leaning into the big hug that she has for him. His eyes close in ecstasy as she runs her fingers through his fur. This ritual of love has been performed over and over again, but the girl and the donkey continue to take just as much delight in each other’s company as they did in the beginning.
The adorable pair serve as a reminder that friendship knows no boundaries. If two beings of such different species can care so much about one another, is there any reason why the rest of us can’t try a little harder to get along?
In the meantime, their enthusiastic response to one another is a source of inspiration and hope. This little girl is years away from adulthood, but a person with this level of compassion clearly has a bright and beautiful future.
