In one of the most entertaining political exchanges of the year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) took a not-so-subtle jab at California Governor Gavin Newsom — and the thin-skinned Democrat did *not* take it well.
The dust-up began after the latest round of “No Kings” protests erupted across the country on October 18, a left-wing spectacle supposedly opposing “authoritarianism” but in reality, nothing more than a coordinated tantrum against President Trump’s efforts to restore law and order. The movement began in Los Angeles after the Trump administration deployed National Guard troops to crack down on illegal immigration and violent crime in so-called sanctuary cities.
Newsom, as usual, leapt to defend the chaos. Posting on X, he celebrated the protests, writing: “Today, Californians joined millions nationwide to say loud and clear: NO to authoritarianism. NO to assaulting our democracy. NO to censorship and fear. NO to hate and division. NO to corruption and cruelty. NO to kings. YES to a government by and for the people.”
In another post dripping with self-righteousness, Newsom doubled down: “Civil rights and freedom. Pluralism and nonviolent protest. The values Americans cherish are under assault by @realDonaldTrump. THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and California will keep peacefully pushing back against the Trump Administration’s authoritarian takeover.”
That’s when the DHS social media team — tired of being the punching bag of Democrat politicians who side with illegal aliens and criminals — decided to fire back with some humor. Using a photo from one of the “No Kings” rallies, DHS posted an image of a protester dressed as male genitalia with the caption: “Breaking: Gavin Newsom has shown up to the riot!”
The internet erupted in laughter. Newsom, however, wasn’t amused. The California governor, known for his vanity and fragile ego, snapped back, replying, “You’re an embarrassment.”

But the real embarrassment, of course, is Newsom’s California — a once-golden state now buried under homelessness, skyrocketing crime, and rampant illegal immigration. As President Trump and his administration move to restore order across America’s major cities, California continues to stand out as a cautionary tale of what happens when progressive policies run unchecked.
Trump, never one to miss an opportunity to highlight failure, weighed in on Truth Social with a series of posts eviscerating Newsom and other Democrat leaders. “Gavin Newscum is way down in the polls,” Trump wrote. “He is viewed as the man who is destroying the once Great State of California. I will save California!!!”
In another post, Trump mocked both Newsom and Maryland Governor Wes Moore for their soft-on-crime stances: “Governor Wes Moore of Maryland has asked that I ‘walk the streets of Maryland’ with him. I assume he’s talking about out-of-control, crime-ridden Baltimore? As President, I’d prefer he clean up that disaster before asking me for a walk. If he needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I’ll send in the troops and clean it up quickly.”
Trump later contrasted successful leadership with Democrat incompetence, praising D.C.’s mayor for cooperating with his administration. “Wouldn’t it be nice,” he said, “to say that about Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and even Baltimore?”
The DHS’s trolling might have been blunt, but it captured what millions of Americans already think: while Democrats like Newsom posture about “democracy” and “tolerance,” they’ve turned their cities into breeding grounds for crime, chaos, and moral decay.
In the end, DHS’s viral post wasn’t just a joke — it was a metaphor. Gavin Newsom can mock law enforcement all he wants, but the joke’s on him. Under Trump’s America-first leadership, the adults are back in charge — and they’re not afraid to call out liberal absurdity for exactly what it is.
