Christine McVie is a singer and songwriter best known for her work with the band Fleetwood Mac. McVie, who was previously known by her maiden name Christine Perfect, wrote some of the band’s most well-known songs like “Say You Love Me” and “Over My Head.” Among the other songs Stevie Nicks wrote for Fleetwood Mac are “Think About Me,” “Hold Me,” and “Little Lies.”

We are deeply saddened to announce that Christine McVie has passed away at the age of 79. Her family released a statement earlier today, which reads: “On behalf of Christine McVie’s family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death. She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie.”

This statement was on McVie’s Instagram account.

Fleetwood Mac also took to Instagram to release a statement that read: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”

McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 and remained an active member until 1998 when she decided to leave due partially to her distaste of flying. However, she rejoined the band in 2014.

In addition to her work with Fleetwood Mac, McVie also had a solo career. Two of her most popular songs are “SongBird” and “Got a Hold on Me.” You can watch videos of her performing these songs below.

She passed away unexpectedly and the cause of death is unknown.
