On New Year’s Day 2016, an inebriated individual spat in a police officer’s face, causing her to contract tuberculosis and die seven months later. 35-year-old Arina Koltsova was attempting to subdue a man who didn’t want a woman telling him what to do, so he got enraged and spit in her face. She had no idea he was suffering from Tuberculosis at the time. However, she became unwell soon after that.
She tried to put up a brave front, even though she wasn’t feeling well. Then the sickness worsened. One day at work, she passed out. Her coworkers rushed her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. She began treatment right away, but it was too late…
“She became ill after New Year’s Day,” said Officer Mikhail Kindrakevich, her on-duty partner. “She had arrested this guy, and he spat in her face. Sometime later, she collapsed. She had received treatment. She underwent chemotherapy, she was fed food through an IV drip, and she had lost a lot of weight.”
Koltsova died on July 25, 2016, as a result of tuberculosis-induced complications. She was interred two days later in Kiev. Her spouse and small son were left behind.
“She was an amazing person,” Kindrakevich stated. “She always wanted to help people. She was always laughing and joking. We are all in shock.” This officer’s death at 35 years old is a grave warning of the dangers police officers face while doing their job. If the suspect had only been courteous and respectable, this tragedy could have been avoided.
“This is an irreplaceable loss for the whole of Kyiv police. Fond memories of Arina will remain in our hearts forever,” Koltsova’s police department stated.
“Arina wanted to change something for our country,” said one of her friends. “Joining the police was a conscious choice. She wanted to change things for the better.”
Tuberculosis, like any disease, can be treated if detected early. It usually takes six to 12 months of antibiotics to cure tuberculosis, according to the National Institute of Health. Drug-resistant rare circumstances are difficult to treat.
It is still unknown whether Koltsova’s case would have been treatable if caught earlier.
Locals eulogized the “irreplaceable” lady who was very well liked by the local community after her untimely death. She became well-known in Kiev due to her good looks and hard-law attitude.
It’s currently unknown if the individual will be charged with murder or manslaughter, but what is certain is that Kyiv wants such a charge, as well as people on internet forums.
