Former Congressman Eric Swalwell’s political future appears to be collapsing under the weight of yet another scandal, as a bombshell CNN report claims multiple women have accused the California Democrat of sending sexually explicit messages and graphic content through Snapchat over a period spanning nearly a decade.
The report lands just weeks after Swalwell resigned from Congress amid separate allegations involving sexual assault and misconduct — accusations that already sent shockwaves through Democratic circles. Now, the latest revelations are raising even more questions about the former lawmaker’s behavior, judgment, and the media’s years-long reluctance to seriously scrutinize one of the Democratic Party’s most outspoken Trump critics.
According to CNN, reporters interviewed more than a dozen women who described interactions with Swalwell that allegedly turned inappropriate, uncomfortable, or overtly sexual. Several women claimed the former congressman used Snapchat — a messaging platform known for disappearing messages — to initiate conversations that quickly shifted from politics to explicit content.
Ironically, Swalwell once championed the app as a way for politicians to “restore faith” in government by connecting directly with Americans. Back in 2016, he enthusiastically promoted Snapchat as a modern tool for transparency and outreach.
Instead, according to the allegations, it allegedly became something very different.
One woman told CNN that what began as casual political conversations soon escalated into personal messages, including questions about what she was wearing. Others alleged that Swalwell sent unsolicited nude images and sexually explicit videos through the platform.
Perhaps most damaging are allegations from a former congressional staffer who admitted to having a consensual relationship with Swalwell after the two connected on Snapchat in 2021. According to the report, she claimed Swalwell sent graphic content showing both his face and naked body. CNN reportedly verified that the woman preserved the material and showed it to the network.
“His stories would be his congressional content,” the woman reportedly said, “but then he would be sending explicit photos.”
The allegations don’t stop there.
CNN also reported that Swalwell allegedly sent flirtatious messages to women he had barely met, including one woman for whom he later wrote a letter of recommendation despite never meeting her in person. Another woman allegedly had to remind the married congressman — who has three children — that he was, in fact, married after he suggested the two spend time together.
Even more troubling, according to the report, is that after CNN reached out to Swalwell’s legal team for comment, the former congressman allegedly began contacting some of the women involved during the early morning hours, reportedly upset that screenshots of messages had been preserved.
The latest scandal marks a stunning downfall for a Democrat who spent years presenting himself as a moral authority on cable news while aggressively attacking conservatives and President Donald Trump. Critics on social media were quick to point out the glaring hypocrisy, especially given Swalwell’s long history of lecturing Americans about ethics, accountability, and “threats to democracy.”
For many conservatives, the story also highlights a broader frustration with the political establishment and legacy media. Had a Republican lawmaker faced accusations of this magnitude, critics argue, the coverage would likely have been nonstop from day one.
Instead, Swalwell remained a favored guest on major networks for years — even after previous controversies surrounding his ties to a suspected Chinese spy became public.
Now, with his political career in ruins and multiple allegations piling up, the former California congressman is facing a level of scrutiny that many believe is long overdue.
