Elon Musk torched Rep. Ilhan Omar this week after a resurfaced 2022 video exposed the Minnesota Democrat boasting to a Somali-American audience that Somalis “call the shots” in the United States and that the U.S. government “must follow our orders.” The clip, spoken entirely in Somali, is now igniting outrage nationwide — and raising serious questions about divided loyalties, foreign influence, and what many are calling outright treason.

The footage shows Omar speaking to a cheering crowd, making declarations that would be unthinkable for any American lawmaker — let alone one sworn to defend the Constitution. She told the audience that Somalis should “sleep in comfort,” because she is working “from inside the U.S. system” to protect Somalia’s interests. For millions of Americans who already distrust Omar’s radical record, this was confirmation of their worst fears.

Omar begins the speech by asserting that the U.S. government “will only do what Somalis in the U.S. tell them to do.” She then repeats herself for emphasis: “They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders.” These are not the words of someone representing Minnesota’s 5th District — these are the words of someone representing a foreign nation while exploiting her position in Congress.

The video only gets worse. Omar goes on to brag, “We Somalis must have confidence in ourselves that we call the shots in the U.S. We live in the U.S., pay taxes in the U.S., and have a real voice. This is the country where one of your daughters (myself) is in Congress to represent your interest.” It’s a stunning admission: she sees herself not as an American representing Americans but as a Somali representative operating within America’s halls of power.

Later in the speech, Omar vows that as long as she remains in Congress, Somalia will “never be in danger” and its territorial waters “will never be stolen by Ethiopians or others.” She concludes by assuring the crowd that “the U.S. would not dare” oppose Somali interests because she is in place to stop it. Her final line says it all: “We sleep in comfort knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from the system inside the U.S.”

This is precisely the type of attitude Americans fear from radical politicians: a foreign allegiance wrapped in identity politics and protected by a Democratic establishment terrified of challenging its own extremists.

Elon Musk — hardly someone known for subtlety — said what millions were already thinking. Retweeting the video, he wrote bluntly: “This sounds like treason.” His comment unleashed a firestorm of responses, with conservatives demanding accountability.

One user wrote, “Ilhan Omar openly advocated for treason and like everything else, nothing happens.” Another added, “Democrats commit treason on a daily basis, and nothing is ever done about it.” Others argued the GOP must act, saying, “There’s been a singular option… deport her. Why hasn’t the GOP taken the first step?”

For years, Omar has been mired in controversy — accusations of immigration fraud, tax irregularities, campaign finance violations, anti-Semitic rants, and her consistent defense of extremist ideologies. Yet this video may be her most damning moment yet. It doesn’t rely on interpretation or partisan spin. It’s her own words, spoken proudly and without hesitation.

And it reignites an unavoidable question: How can someone who openly pledges fealty to a foreign nation remain in the United States Congress?

Democrats, predictably, are silent — perhaps hoping the scandal burns out on its own. But this video is not going away. With federal officials already investigating widespread Somali immigration fraud in Minnesota and renewed calls to revisit Omar’s citizenship paperwork, the political ground beneath her is shifting.

At a time when Americans desperately want representatives who put America first, Ilhan Omar has once again made it crystal clear: she does not.
