A resurfaced video clip of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk dismantling Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov during a tense interview is once again making waves online, with conservatives celebrating what many are calling a masterclass in calmly shutting down left-wing talking points.
The exchange, originally aired in April 2025, featured Tarlov pressing Musk over his role leading the Department of Government Efficiency — or DOGE — during President Donald Trump’s second administration. At the time, Democrats and liberal critics were aggressively attacking Musk, accusing him of having conflicts of interest due to his leadership of companies like Tesla and SpaceX while simultaneously helping streamline federal agencies.
But what started as an attempted political ambush quickly turned into an awkward moment for Tarlov.
Tarlov kicked off the interview with what appeared to be a lighthearted jab.
“Liberal Tesla lover here,” she joked, adding that her family owned multiple Teslas and quipping that they had not “thrown any Molotov cocktails recently,” a reference to anti-Tesla protests that had gained media attention.
Musk chuckled politely.
“Thanks,” he replied.
But the mood quickly shifted.
Tarlov moved straight into familiar Democratic criticisms, accusing Musk of overseeing cuts to federal agencies that had regulatory authority over his businesses while continuing to benefit from government contracts and subsidies.
“You continue to get billions in government contracts,” she said. “Tesla gets billions in subsidies. How do you explain that to the American people?”
Instead of becoming defensive, Musk calmly dismantled the premise of the attack.
“Well, everything DOGE does is an open book,” Musk replied. “I think we’re the most transparent organization in government.”
He pointed viewers to public records of DOGE’s actions, emphasizing that every cut, decision, and recommendation was openly posted online for scrutiny.
“Every single DOGE action is listed,” he explained. “If anyone has a concern, they can bring it up.”
Then came the point that appeared to catch critics off guard: Musk openly admitted mistakes can happen — but insisted transparency and accountability are exactly what make DOGE different.
“Sometimes we make mistakes,” Musk acknowledged. “Nobody bats a thousand.”
But unlike Washington bureaucracies that often bury failures, Musk said DOGE corrected errors quickly and publicly.
“We fix them fast,” he said. “We’re trying to do the right thing for the American taxpayer.”
Musk also brushed aside insinuations that he could secretly manipulate government policy for personal benefit, arguing that the intense public spotlight on him makes wrongdoing virtually impossible.
“I am under such extreme scrutiny,” Musk said. “It is literally impossible for me to get away with anything nefarious.”
The Tesla CEO concluded by arguing that history would ultimately judge DOGE favorably, framing the agency as an effort to cut waste and restore accountability after decades of bloated government spending.
“I think history will show this is a very good thing for the strength and future of America,” he said.
The clip has exploded again on social media, where conservatives piled on in defense of Musk and mocked Tarlov’s line of questioning.
