Elon Musk has set his sights on America’s bloated federal government, and he’s proving that cutting a trillion dollars in wasteful spending is not just possible—it’s happening. Speaking with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Special Report, Musk declared that his team is on track to eliminate $4 billion in waste every single day, seven days a week, without cutting essential services.
“This is a revolution,” Musk said, calling it “the biggest revolution in government since the original revolution.” And he’s not exaggerating. In just a few short months, his initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has already gutted wasteful agencies, saved taxpayers billions, and put America on a path toward fiscal responsibility.
Musk’s plan? Continue slashing bureaucratic bloat, fraud, and abuse—while ensuring that hardworking Americans, especially Social Security recipients, receive more benefits, not less.
Musk, 54, has taken a hands-on approach, moving swiftly through federal agencies, cutting unnecessary spending, and reducing the size of bloated bureaucracies. His goal? To slash a trillion dollars in waste, halving the annual deficit. And he’s already making major progress.
“If we stay on this pace, we’ll cut $520 billion within 130 days,” Musk told Baier. “And I think we will accomplish most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars in that time.”
His team has already taken a sledgehammer to inefficient agencies, all but shutting down the bloated 10,000-person USAID and the unnecessary 1,700-person Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. And while some agencies, like the Pentagon, are still waiting for their turn, Musk made it clear: the mission is urgent.
“Unless this exercise is successful, the ship of America will sink,” he warned. “That’s why we’re doing it.”
One of the biggest misconceptions about spending cuts is that they’ll harm Social Security recipients. But Musk and his team are proving the opposite: by cutting fraud and inefficiency, seniors will actually get more money, not less.
“We learned that 40% of the phone calls to the Social Security Administration are from fraudsters trying to steal payments,” said DOGE software engineer Aram Moghaddassi.
By eliminating fraud and modernizing the system, Musk promises, “Legitimate recipients of Social Security will receive more money, not less.”
He continued: “The 94-year-old grandmother who depends on her check—she’s actually going to get it, without it being stolen. And the solvency of the federal government will ensure she continues receiving those checks.”
In other words, Musk is doing what Washington politicians refuse to do—fixing the broken system and ensuring Social Security remains stable for future generations.
Musk is bringing the private sector’s efficiency to government, and other business leaders, like Airbnb cofounder Joe Gebbia, are helping. One of their major targets? The archaic, paper-based retirement system for government employees, which currently limits retirements to 8,000 per month.
“It’s an injustice to civil servants who are subjected to processes that are older than half the people watching this show,” Gebbia said. “We really believe that government can have an Apple Store-like experience—beautifully designed, great user experience, modern systems.”
Despite the left’s fearmongering about Musk’s efficiency drive leading to mass firings, the numbers tell a different story. Instead of firing millions of federal workers, Musk’s team has simply offered buyouts, and the results have been staggering.
“About 75,000 federal workers have accepted buyouts,” DOGE official Anthony Armstrong explained. “At this moment, less than 0.15% of the federal workforce has actually been given a reduction in force notice.”
Musk added, “Basically, almost no one’s gotten fired.”
Elon Musk is proving that government waste can be cut without harming essential services. By eliminating fraud, unnecessary bureaucracy, and inefficient agencies, he’s doing what Washington politicians should have done years ago—restoring fiscal sanity.
And he’s doing it all while ensuring that hardworking Americans, from retirees to civil servants, benefit more—not less.
The question now is: will politicians have the courage to follow Musk’s lead, or will they keep protecting the bloated bureaucracy that has drained America for decades?
