Despite the overwhelming evidence of his disastrous presidency, Joe Biden continues to cause headaches for the Democratic Party as his embarrassing public appearances only seem to worsen. As the 2024 election approaches, insiders within the Democratic National Committee (DNC) are increasingly urging Biden to step aside and retire from public life for the sake of the party’s future.
Biden’s recent interview on ABC’s *The View* only reinforced concerns over his mental and physical decline. In a rambling, incoherent response, the president attempted to highlight his so-called “legacy.” Struggling to string together even basic sentences, he said, “They’re all the the the… projects, the benefits. How do you lead the world without having the best infrastructure? How do you lead the world without having the best healthcare in the world?”
Biden’s verbal confusion continued as he mumbled, “How do you lead the world without having the best education system in the world? How do you lead the world when you don’t have that done?” These disjointed comments left many questioning whether Biden is truly capable of leading the country for another term.
In yet another baffling moment, Biden tried—and failed—to defend Vice President Kamala Harris. He claimed, “She \[Harris] was in every aspect, every decision I made, every decision we made. And I don’t think, I hope I didn’t sound the wrong way. I don’t think anybody thought we’d be successful as we were.” The incoherence of his statements only further raised doubts about his leadership.
Former Biden administration official Anthony Cole did not mince words when discussing the former president’s impact on the upcoming election. Cole bluntly stated, “Elections are about the future. Every time Joe Biden emerges, we fight an old war. Every interview he does provides a contrast to Trump that’s just not helpful for the Democratic brand.” Cole continued, “Joe Biden ain’t that. The Democratic Party needs trusted messengers who can reach independents and moderates, and inspire the base.”
This sentiment was echoed by another anonymous Democratic strategist who criticized Biden for his unwillingness to accept responsibility for the party’s losses. The strategist argued, “I don’t think there’s a willingness to cop to the fact that he should never have run again in the first place. Why can’t he come out and acknowledge that part of this is on him?” It’s a bitter reality for many in the party that Biden’s poor political judgment and ineffective leadership have left the Democrats in disarray.
As the party looks toward the future, the shadow of Biden’s incompetence looms large. One insider warned that the 2028 Democratic field will likely have to contend with how they address Biden’s legacy. “There’s a good chance that the most significant litmus test for any Democrat in the 2028 field will be how and if they admonish Biden for the political judgment in the final 18 months of his political career,” the source said.
The frustration among Democrats is palpable. Strategist Jon Reinish noted that many in the party are starting to pay more attention to a younger generation of leaders free from the baggage of Biden’s failed presidency. “I actually think that a lot of people are starting to pay much more attention to a younger generation of Democrats who are finally starting to move the party away from folks who stayed too long at the fair.”
As Biden continues to bumble his way through interviews and fails to address his legacy of failure, the Democratic Party is left wondering whether they’ll be able to recover in time for 2024. At this rate, it seems like Biden is doing more to hurt the party than help it, and the calls for his retirement are only growing louder.
