New York City is facing a radical new threat as the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) announced plans to mobilize over 4,000 activists to disrupt Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. The move, openly inspired by the violent protests in Minnesota after the January 7, 2026, shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent, signals an alarming escalation in left-wing efforts to obstruct lawful immigration enforcement.
According to reports from the New York Post, DSA leaders are preparing for what they call a “rapid response” against federal raids, drawing lessons from the chaos in Minneapolis-St. Paul. That unrest involved crowds, noise alerts, clashes with law enforcement, and even the deployment of tear gas, prompting the Trump administration to threaten military intervention under the Insurrection Act. Now, New York radicals are attempting to bring those tactics to the Big Apple.
Speaking to a gathering of more than 100 activists, a DSA leader identified only as Marina framed the plan as urgent. “As we’ve seen in other cities, we still do anticipate a big wave of federal immigration enforcement,” she said. “It can be confusing, it can be scary, it can be kind of uncertain what’s happening in New York right now… But we want to be on our front foot if and when it does.”
Other DSA organizers encouraged radical participation based on language skills, specifically targeting immigrant communities. “If you speak Pular, if you speak Creole, if you speak Fulani – come find us. We really want you on the team,” another activist claimed. Landry, a self-described tenant organizer in Crown Heights, even framed ICE enforcement as an “imperialist project,” arguing that efforts to deport illegal aliens are part of a broader U.S. agenda against immigrants.
The radicals made clear they intend to actively interfere with ICE operations. Marina boasted that past efforts in New York had been sufficient to “deter ICE detentions,” while another DSA leader, Leemah Nasrati, promised whistles to mobilize participants. “There are more of us than them,” she proclaimed, as Marina added, “The whistles carry far and wide.”
Federal authorities are not taking the threat lightly. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responded with a strong warning: “ICE law enforcement officers are sending criminal illegal aliens where they should have been all along – HOME for the holidays.”
The DSA issued a statement painting ICE as a violent, racist force while pushing their standard socialist talking points, claiming that “Black, Brown, Immigrant, and other racialized communities bear the barrel of the gun of militarized policy.” They criticized federal funding priorities, suggesting resources are being misallocated to enforcement instead of social programs. The organization also used the statement to launch a political attack against former President Trump, alleging systemic racism and demonization of minority communities.
In short, New York City is witnessing a radical escalation: a coordinated effort to obstruct federal law enforcement, inspired by violent left-wing mobs in Minneapolis, with thousands of activists openly preparing to interfere with ICE operations. Conservatives warn this is a dangerous precedent, turning law-abiding enforcement into a target for political intimidation, and endangering public safety in the process.
