Conrad Janis, a popular character actor who was best known for his role as Fred McConnell on the television series Mork & Mindy, died at the age of 94. Conrad will be remembered for his work on Mork & Mindy, in which he played Fred McConnell. In People Magazine, Dean Avedon, Conrad’s business manager, announced the sad news.

Mork & Mindy was an offshoot of Happy Days and focused on Mork (played by Robin Williams), an extraterrestrial who resided with Mindy (née Andrea Kalmer). Janis’ character, Fred McConnell, was the father of Mindy McConnell (played by Pam Dawber) and appeared in 70 episodes from 1978 to 1982.

His manager’s statement included the following tribute:

Conrad Janis, a World War II veteran who played Fred McConnell in the 1970s hit television series Mork & Mindy, has died at the age of 94. Conrad will always be remembered for his role as Fred McConnell on the popular TV show Mork & Mindy. According to People Magazine, Janis’ death was announced on March 1st.

“Conrad and his wife Maria were clients of mine for over 35 years. They were two of the nicest, respectful, and generous people I know,’ Avedon said in the statement. ‘I have many fond memories of Conrad telling me stories from his past. He was an amazing man that led a truly amazing life.”

Janis’ career began in 1945, when he was cast as Mork in the Broadway production Dark of the Moon. He also appeared in 12 more Broadway plays during his time on stage.

He also played a recurring role on Law & Order: SVU and starred in several movies, including The Cable Guy, Baywatch (his breakthrough role), L.A. Heat, Frasier, and Bad Blood.

Janis was an accomplished jazz trombonist who frequently performed in Los Angeles. Janis was also an actor, having appeared in a variety of films and television shows throughout the years, as well as stage roles.
