When someone is presented with a life-threatening diagnosis, they can keep it to themselves and only divulge this information to their closest family and friends. On the other hand, individuals may also opt to be open about their condition so that others can offer prayers or comfort before time runs out. Whichever path they choose, we should strive to respect their decision and desire privacy.

Even with a secret battle against cancer, Drew Griffin – an esteemed CNN journalist- kept his head high and never ceased doing the job he loved. He continued reporting for CNN up until his last day.

After a long and courageous struggle, Griffin sadly succumbed to cancer on Saturday 17th December 2022 at the age of sixty. He is survived by his beloved wife Margot; with whom he shared three children Ele, Miles, and Griffin, and two precious grandchildren.

Griffin’s journey with journalism began in his hometown of Chicago, and from there he explored opportunities that took him to Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Washington. After such an enriching experience Griffin finally settled at CBS 2 News as part of the Los Angeles team. Following his stint at ABC News, he moved on to CNN and spent almost 18 years as a senior investigative correspondent. His relentless determination in securing interviews even when the subject didn’t want to cooperate earned him appreciation from many quarters – all this while keeping up an exemplary work ethic for constructing stories with finesse. But more than that, it was enthralling how despite his busy schedule, he still managed some quality family time!

In a written statement, CNN Chief Executive Officer Chris Licht mourned the passing of Griffin as “a devastating loss to CNN and our entire profession.” He continued, “Drew’s work had an incredible impact and embodied the mission of this organization in every way.”

Drew Griffin valued people more than awards, according to Licht – even though he had already achieved many accolades like Emmys, Peabody’s, and Murrows.
