The highly unsettling “burn after reading” note penned by Brian Laundrie’s mother has been unveiled to the public, revealing her promise to provide her son with essential tools—a shovel and garbage bags—to dispose of a body. This bone-chilling note finally came to light on Wednesday, drawing widespread attention and raising numerous questions.
Roberta Laundrie, Brian’s mother, expressed her disturbing commitment to him through the contents of this note. In her deeply troubling words, she assured Brian that if he ever found himself incarcerated, she would go to great lengths to support him, even going as far as baking a cake with a hidden file. The gravity of her dedication is further accentuated by her promise to arrive with a shovel and garbage bags should the need arise to eliminate evidence.
“If you’re in jail I will bake a cake and put a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body. I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags,” Roberta Laundrie wroteto her son, Brian, who confessed to murdering his girlfriend Gabby Petito before killing himself back in 2021.
“I just want you to remember I will always love you and I know you will always love me. You are my boy. Nothing can make me stop loving you, nothing can or ever will divide us no matter what we do, or where we go, or what we say – we will always love each other,” she wrote.
“If you fly to the moon, I will be watching the skies for your re-entry,” she added. “If you say you hate my guts, I’ll get new guts. Remember that love is a verb, not a noun. It’s not a thing it’s not words. It is actions. Watch people’s actions to know if they love you – not their words.”
However, this note is not solely filled with ominous intentions. It also contains expressions of unwavering love and an unbreakable bond between mother and son. Roberta emphasized that her love for Brian knows no boundaries, regardless of their circumstances or the heinous acts he might have committed. She reassured him that their love would endure, no matter what they faced or where life took them.
Quoting from the Bible, Roberta drew upon the powerful words of Romans 8:38 to strengthen her message. The inclusion of this verse adds an additional layer of complexity and perhaps provides insight into the depth of her religious beliefs during these distressing times.
The public release of this haunting letter came about due to a ruling by Florida Judge Danielle Brewer, who deemed it admissible as evidence in an emotional distress lawsuit filed against the Laundries by Gabby Petito’s parents. The letter’s disclosure aims to shed light on the Laundries’ potential knowledge and involvement in Gabby’s tragic fate.
It is worth noting that Roberta Laundrie clarified that she wrote the letter before Brian and Gabby embarked on their ill-fated cross-country journey in June 2021. The phrase “burn after reading” was borrowed from a book entitled “Burn After Writing,” given to Brian by Gabby, which encouraged introspective and cathartic self-expression through letter-writing.
As this case unfolds, the eerie details of this note continue to captivate public attention. The complexities surrounding the Laundries and their connections to Gabby Petito’s tragic demise are gradually coming to light. The disturbing loyalty and willingness displayed by Brian Laundrie’s mother to assist him under such horrifying circumstances serve as a stark reminder of the dark complexities that surround this case.
